“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” ~ 2 Corinthians 12:9 (ESV – emphasis mine)

It appears that I am thanking God for His grace the third time during our Thankful Thursday gathering (just know that because my permalink noted #3 😉 )…

I feel that grace is something that we can be thankful for more than once. It took me some years to really understand it (I still will not know the full scope of God’s grace until life everlasting). The dictionary defines grace several ways; my favorites are: 1) Unmerited Divine assistance given humans for their regeneration or sanctification (coming from God), 2) Mercy, Pardon.

I started reading Elaine Olsen’s book “Peace for the Journey“. The first chapter is about His amazing grace. One of the questions Elaine is posing got me thinking more deeply about grace: “Why is grace a ‘confrontational’ message?” Hm, good question; I don’t have an answer for that.

I only can share what I feel when it comes to God’s grace. I didn’t deserve it, but He freely gave it to me anyway. All I had to do is open up the gift and receive it with all my heart. Maybe for some it is so hard because nothing is required. We come as we are; no clean-up required. I guess we have to be way on the bottom (like I was) before we see that His grace indeed is amazing!!! His pardon comes from His heart, through Christ!

So this week (once again) I am thankful for His grace!!!

What are you thankful for this week? Please share with us by leaving your link to your thankful post below. Also, please pray for Elaine. Although she is battling cancer, she is encouraging others to look where grace is found, in the arms of Jesus.

Thank you for stopping by today. Remember: never tire of thanking Him for His grace. If you haven’t yet, check out this week’s giveaway here.

  1. I think you are right – grace is confrontational because it is human nature to want to DO something. People want to believe they contributed something to their salvation (other than their sin, that is.) But the truth is that it is all of God – To God alone be the glory.

  2. Grace really is so amazing, isn’t it?! So unfathomable. What a wonderful thing to be reminded to be thankful for!! Funny how we rely on it daily and yet maybe don’t stop to really consider it and express our gratitude for it very often. Thanks for reminding ME!

  3. I don’t know if I understand God’s Grace yet, but I know It’s mine! I am thankful for that. My journey is going to bring me closer to a understanding some time. I know this in my heart. Day by day I am getting closer to Him!
Have a blessed day Iris! Thank you for hosting this month!

  4. Iris,

Elaine’s questions just jumps out at me when I consider my unbelieving husband. It is confrontational.

God’s grace. It overwhelms me my friend. Hugging you and thanks for hosting. Happy TT.

  5. I will never be able to thank Him enough for grace…..no words can express the true gratitude….

Elaine’s book is such a blessing…and her life and love for her Saviour….is such an inspiration…..

  6. Grace. such a simple word but so profound. We won’t know the true depth of it until we bask in the glory and power of the Lord.
Amazing Grace how sweet the sound…
    that saved you and me…
once we were lost then we were found
His amazing gift of grace set us free.

  7. I think we need to be reminded not to take that grace for granted. It is such a special gift.

have a wonderful day! I saw a photo contest mentioned on another blog and thought of your work, I’ll see if I can find it and email you.

  8. His grace is wonderful.. as I was reading this post I heard a song start playing in my head.. Your grace is enough, by Chris Tomlin.. and wow, how amazing is our Savior!

    Thanks for sharing!

  9. Wow. As a fairly new mom, I am seeing God’s Grace in a whole new light. I see more how God extends Grace to me. I see how unwilling my toddler is to accept grace when I extend it (in discipline issues) and see how unwilling I am to accept the Grace of God at times. He is so good to give us little ones to show us our sins.

  10. As I started reading your post, I found myself humming that hymn Grace Greater than our Sin: ” Grace, grace, God’s grace, grace that will pardon and cleanse within; grace, grace, God’s grace, grace that is greater than all our sin! ” Where would we be without the grace of God? I can’t even imagine.

  11. His grace is so amazing!

Not sure who wrote this song but it came to mind when I read your post.

Lord I know the power of the
    Blood of the Lamb the
    Cleansing flow from calvary to
    Redeem fallen man
Though You were rejected and Your
    Love was more than tested

Lord Your grace is still amazing (3x)
    Amazing to me

    Sometimes our desires
    They head us far away
But Your spirit draws us back to You
    No matter where we stray
    Even in our weakness Lord
Your love can always reach us

Lord Your grace is still amazing (3x)
    Amazing to me

  12. Dear friend,

I love this message. One of my loved ones and I speak often about the message of GRACE. I\’m so thankful that we have received His grace not because we are worthy but because HE IS WORTHY. I\’m thankful for His grace…I’m thankful for JESUS!

    Hugs and love.
