“And he withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed, saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.””
(Luke 22:41-42 ESV ~ emphasis mine)
Many times I pray short prayers; prayers for family or friends. I pray throughout the day; I really do not have a specific time for prayer. However, if there is something really on my heart, and I need to let go of a certain situation, I pull out my little prayer book.
What I have noticed that when I write down my prayers, my focus changes. It is not so much that I want to change God’s mind over a situation, but He changes mine. Read again what Jesus said in the garden of Gethsemane…”not my will, but yours”…
Isn’t that what prayer really is? To align with God’s will? I know that I need to sometimes spell it out (thus my prayer book). I need to be reminded that He is in control. I am thankful for those times when things become a little clearer to me through prayer. So, this week I am thankful for the power of prayer.
Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!
(Psalm 139:23-24 ESV)

I also am so thankful for prayer! It is an incredible privilege that God allows us to come to Him directly! I write down many of my prayers, too. Isn’t it encouraging to look back through the pages of past prayers and be able to see exactly how God has given His answers? What a blessing!
i am also thankful for prayer. =)
Wow, great point! I think I need to do more writing down my prayers!
Through prayer your vision becomes clearer. I like that. Thanks, Iris.
Thank you for sharing these verses and your thoughts on prayer. I am thankful God hears us when we call to Him.

Amen my friend, amen.
This is a great reminder to stop and take time to give thanks!! A great idea!
Hi Iris
Great post…I keep a journal of what I’m praying for and my specific prayers and I’m always amazed to look back and see how God has worked!
Thank you for hosting…its such a blessing to read everyone’s thankful posts.
God bless!
There is power in prayer and additional power when we use God’s Word in our prayers. God knows his promises, but he delights when we remind Him of what He has promised. Writing down what you have prayed is good so that later you can review and thank him for His answers.
Hi Iris — Yes! This so a prayer of mine and sometimes it is a battle within me to relinquish myself to His will — just being honest about it. It isn’t always easy but when I do, I am content and at peace. Wonderful thoughts and prayer. I strive to be more like Him daily. Have a wonderful weekend!
I, too, receive clarity when I write my prayers. Verbalizing on paper centers my thoughts. Prayer holds such power. I desire to be more faithful in praying to my God — the God who encourages us to come boldly before His throne.
Blessings,
Pamela
I’m a little late in adding my comment as I linked mine as I was heading out the door to work. But I agree with you Iris. I recently found a prayer journal notebook of mine. As I read through my many prayers, it brought back so many memories and situations. God has been faithful. He doesn’t always answer in the way I expect but His ways are always best.
Love,
Debbie
