~ Erma Bombech ~
Did you know that Erma Bombech was one of my favorite authors when I was a young, married woman? She ‘tackled’ family with a lot of humor, don’t you agree? Did you also know, that she lived here in Arizona? Okay, now to the real topic of this week’s “In Other Words”…
Dreams — I had many. In the 70’s I wanted to become a ‘rock-star’; than a nurse, but I couldn’t stand to see blood. In the early 80’s I wanted to become a motorcycle-police-women (no women were allowed in the German police-force though; even my dad couldn’t help). But than I met my Sweetheart, and all I wanted was being married and have children…Sadly, we were only graced with one son…
I still have many dreams. Like riding around the country on the back of a motorcycle; holding my grand-baby in my arms (after Daniel gets settled and will find a fitting wife)…travel the world and finally retire to San Carlos.
So, why does it take courage to show others our dreams? Because those are our personal dreams, they are unique to us. What is a dream for me, might sound silly to someone else…
But I know that there is One person I always will have the courage to share my dreams with – no matter how silly they might be…I can share them with my Heavenly Father, because He knows already what will become reality and what will always be a dream.
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD.
“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” ~ Isaiah 55: 8-9
Our hostess for this week’s ‘In Other Words’ is Kari at the CWO Blog…Hope to see you there. Please scroll down for my “Tackle Project” this week…
You hit the nail on the head when you said that dreams are unique and that is what makes sharing them sometimes difficult. Stop by and read my post as well if you have time. Thanks for sharing!!
Nice dreams! (I like the motorcycle idea.) My dreams keep changing. Sometimes, I think I want a very private quiet life of study to offset my busy childrearing years. But then sometimes I just want to carry on with a very public, social type of life. I suppose somewhere in between is what suits me best. Some day, I’ll join you in San Carlos!
i totally agree! many dreams of mine I have only shared with the Lord.
i wanted to be a rock star – but with no talent and no plans or hopes of getting any, I di what as a teenager I thought was the logical next best. I dated a musician. yeah – so glad I grew out of that one!!!
I love that HE gives us dreams that are completely unique to us. He knows what our needs are, what He created us for, and He leads us to those things that He knows will be most fulfilling to us. “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper and not to harm, plans to ive you hoope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
That verse in Jeremiah is one I have clung to over and over again when I’ve given my dreams to God. He always fulfills them–but often not in the way I thought He would. Isn’t He amazing!
I love this verse. I’m writing it down today and taping it to my steering wheel to help me think about it/”meditate” as I run around town today.
I have dreams, too. 😉
Amen, dreams are looking into the soul of another. That is why it is hard to share. Great post.
what will be reality and what will stay a dream. I think you hit it right on Iris!
Your dreams don’t sound silly to me! You sound like someone who really knows how to have FUN!
I don’t think your dreams sound silly, at all… but maybe that’s because we’re somewhat alike. I can’t see you a a rock star, tho LOL =)
xoxo
Love this post. My husband and I have a friend who says this, “You have to have a dream before you can make it come true.” Without the dreams of my heart I believe I would shrivel up like a prune. Thanks for the lovely post. …..I wanted to marry a rock star….thank God I didn’t. Else I wouldn’t have been available when my Youth Pastor Hubby came along:) Melissa
Room on that bike for me? We could take turns holding the baby. 🙂
I love how you think 🙂
Nicely done on this week’s quote!
Great thoughts~~thanks for sharing your dreams with us! I need to check out the CWO site. C
I like your dreams. Glad you had the courage to share them. May God, who I believe gave them to you in the first place, show you the way to carry them out!
