Have you ever wondered why God created flowers? I think they are here to lift our spirit in times we are down. It gives us a glimpse of Eden; what it might have been like – the beauty of it, I mean. I have two favorite flowers. One are Roses and the other, you might have guessed, Iris. My Mom liked the flower so much, that she had to name one of her girls after it – wonder who that is?
One of my favorite photo bloggers, Otto, is doing a series on Iris‘ right now (really cool). I just wish I had his eye for the beauty he sees in flowers. I just click, shoot and clean the photos up in my image software (like that one on your right *grin*)
You know what passage kept coming to mind this week as I was thinking about the carnival topic? Matthew 6:27-29 (NIV):
“Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.”
Hm, so why did this Scripture keeps coming to mind? Is God trying to tell me that I worry too much about tomorrow? Well, I think I am…Training my successor in my old job, starting a new job next week (hopefully – see there it is again – worry)…We always have enough food, clothes to wear and a roof over our head…Hello, so why do I worry now? I think it is just the ‘angst’ of the new things to come. But if I lean on Him and get my strength from Him, I do not need to worry. Don’t you agree? My heart knows that He will take care of my needs, but my head sometimes doesn’t get the message.
I am just glad that I am digging in this Word again – literally. Although in a different setting – blog Bible study (do you think Paul would’ve liked the internet and all it’s possibilities? – I think, he would’ve so much enjoyed it and cut down on his travel time for sure). Are you staying in His Word so that your head gets the message from your heart?…The comfort He has put there that you should not worry about what tomorrow brings? How do you stay in His word? Please do share with me….
Yeah!! Flowers do so cheer my spirit–I can’t help but smile at them.
What an awesome connection from flowers to worry to why we worry–not digging into God’s Word.
For me, all I know is that the more I read the more I want to read. And, when I don’t read it continually gets easier to stay away. I think it boils down to discipline and desire.
Anyway, I will be back to see what others have to say about how they stay plugged in.
P.S. right now the blogger form is all in chinese!! I guess since I am at school and it is my “lunch break” the computers here are set to Chinese. I hope I did this right–we’ll see in a second! 🙂
awww, that’s so incredible! i think you certainly live up to a flower – gentle, sweet, and able to make one smile!
thanks for the challenge to stay in the Word – i really need to be more into it.
I love beautiful flowers. Don’t really have a favorite. Any beautiful flower is beautiful to me.
Thanks Amanda for stopping by and your kind words. You are right. The more I read the more I want to know too. But it is very easy to get side tracked – I think.
Thanks No_Average_Girl – I will tell my mom that she picked a name that fits my character :).
Thank you Friday’s Child for stopping by. I like all kinds of flowers too, but those two are my favorite 🙂
Oh yeah, I think Paul would of been a blogger for sure 😀
Oh that’s neat that your mom named you after a flower she loved. I think irises are beautiful too. I learned to paint them when I lived in Japan. I love the deep purple color.
I’m digging into the word these days via Beth Moore. Of course you know this is intense. No skimming allowed! I love the accountability this group provides.
Maybe one day you can blog about what kind of photo software you use because I’d love to learn more about it!
Iris…lovely post….lovely picture! Good job on that!
Lovely Bible verse…that’s one of my favorites….I love word pictures in the Bible especially…
Staying in His Word is hard for me, with homeschooling and a busy outside the home schedule, but I try to read it each day. Sometimes it is online, usually it is with my old Bible with all my bookmarks and notes in it. My girls and I enjoy reading it together…a chapter a day (we’re in Acts now) before starting schooling in the mornings.
Isn’t the weather great lately!?? 😉

Iris,
Lovely writing and photo! My daughter (age 9) loves those verses, and always makes me recite them when she is worried. I really should have HER learn them, shouldn’t I? Are you able to grow irises where you live? I love them, and have several in both the front and back gardens. The leaves are popping up where we live. I can’t wait to see that gorgeous deep purple that looks just like velvet.
I tend to worry also Iris and in fact broke down crying just last night over worry. It does me little good of course.
Roses were my favorite at one time and now I love tulips :o)
Like several others – that group of verses are some of my favorites also. As for being in the word, ironically the carnival itself has me digging in it most weeks. I sometimes doe my own “topical studies” (pick a topic and go digging) but like you, right now I’m doing LBY :o) Pretty great isn’t it!
