“That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;” (Romans 10:9 ~ NASB.)

Yes, I confess Jesus as Lord. I believe that God’s power (in other words, His sovereignty) raised Jesus from the dead. I believe and trust God regarding my salvation.

So tell me, why can I not seem to trust Him with the rest of my life? Why do I constantly take matters back in my own hands, even though I left them at the altar. Has God not shown me that He is ultimately the One who knows my path? He has laid the path out for me ~ I can trust to follow it! If I look back I can see His fingerprints in my life. If it had to do with my marriage, raising our son, friendships, money matters etc.; His hands were in all of it.

So, why can I not trust Him with the future? Why do I constantly question His path? The only answer I have for that: I am human and a sinful being. The bad thing about it!? When I take it back in my own hands, I stand in front of a big mess. Because I mess up again and again. I want to leave things in His hands, because I know the outcome is always good.

Does this happen to you? Taken issues back into your own hands, although you had given it to God? You and I know He is sovereign. But most of the time, I don’t act like He is.

As I was writing this post, I made a commitment to the Lord: “When I leave matters at the foot of the cross, I will not take them back. This is a thing of the past!” I pray that I can hold this commitment. Would you care to join me? To leave things at the altar and don’t pick them back up?

The LORD is my strength and my shield;
My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped;
Therefore my heart exults,
And with my song I shall thank Him.
(Psalm 28:7 ~ NASB)

  1. Good point, Iris!

    They say the trouble with living sacrifices is that they keep crawling off the altar:-) I’m not sure my comittment is needed as much as the surrender of my will. I’m reading about overcoming in Christ, from the writings of Watchman Nee who says: “The reason we do not have power is that we are not weak enough. The power of Christ is perfected only in weakness (2 Cor.12:9). It is not Christ making me powerful that is the secret to the victorious life; it is Christ being power unto my weakness.”

    Be encouraged–it’s good to have the awareness that you do. The Lord is doing a wonderful work in your heart!

    love & hugs,
    Vicki

  2. Good post. I think sometimes it’s because I didn’t really give it over – just looking back on some things here. You’ve pinpointed a common struggle in this post – and I appreciate the way you bring the sovereignty of God into everyday life issues.

    BTW – I see Bend It Like Beckham is added to your movie list now. I love it.

  3. Thanks Vicki for stopping by. I am always happy to read your comments :). You know, you are right, maybe the commitment doesn’t cut it- I have to surrender it and maybe that has been my problem all along. Thank you for sharing your thought.

    Catez – thanks for stopping by. Yup – I think that I hold on with the little finger most of the time, so it is easier to take it back.
    Yeah, I finally up-dated my profile. I have seen the movie for the first time this past Christmas and fell in love with it. It’s a great, clean movie and because it has to do with girl’s soccer – awesome. Believe it or not, but I use to play soccer when I was young. 🙂 Maybe I should become a trainer for girls’ soccer here in the US *grin*.

  4. I Thank you for visiting my Blog and have added your to my links. I know that trust in God to handle all things can be hard at times. What I do is look at the mess I made of my life in the past not trusting him and it seems to make it much easier then somehow. I Love That you are sharing your faith and wish there were a lot more out there doing it. I will kept you in my prayers as well. Carolyn

  5. It is nice to see you here Carolyn. And I am so happy that you have your own blog now :). When you come back, check out My Personal Reads – all those ladies are confessing Christians and do so on their blog as well. 🙂

  6. As you know from reading my blog giving up to the Lord has been difficult for me also. My hubby is fond of telling me to just “Let it go” but I find myself in a day or so mulling over the issue again and again wondering why the Lord hasn’t done something with it yet! Oh the sinner that I be. I am trying to let go.

  7. hey girl! this post was exactly what i needed today… things seem to hit at once – always, and i’ve got a couple of situations i’m dealing with right now, with the biggest being my pawpaw. i do need to just learn to relax and give it all to Him – for He is the Author, the Maker, the Creator, the Sustainer of all anyway. if i could safely trust anyone, it would be Him.

    thanks for the reminder! all my love!

  8. It really is a great reminder and a wonderful post. Like you, there are things in my life that I take back from the foot of the cross, and I should know better because God has worked so many things out in ways that were completely beyond my expectations. I seek to surrender more of me to Him daily, I pray the same for you. 🙂

  9. I do this too Iris! My grandmother has a “worry box”. She said that when she’s tempted to pick up a burden she writes it on a piece of paper and puts it in the box. If she starts to worry about it again she reminds herself that she placed it in God’s inbox already and that it isn’t her concern anymore lol.

    I’ll join you in working at keeping things turned over to Him :o)

    Thank you for hosting Iris – this was a blessing.

  10. Iris, I really enjoyed this post. If we were all just a little more patient with God, we might not be taking back our sacrifices so quickly to fix them ourselves!!

  11. Thank you all for stopping by.

    Catez – I wish I would still play soccer.
    Blair – I really like the idea of the ‘worry box’ – that is cool.
    Janna, you are right – sometimes I want everything right now.
