Awesome and very encouraging to read, especially if you are my age .

How about Aging Gracefully?

“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”
Proverbs 31:30 (NIV)

I have to say that God is just amazing…As I was writing my post on my notepad on Sunday night; I had to stop, because it was time for bed. I picked up where I had left off this morning, but got stuck. So, I went to my PC and pulled up my daily blog reads. I was shocked, because right there on this blog, I read “my post” (I thought that I had written a guest post and forgot)…Oh, what to do? I had to rewrite (so I thought)…But our gracious hostess said I should still write it in my own words…So, here are my thoughts on aging gracefully…

As I was getting ready Sunday, Proverbs 31 came to mind. I tell you, I have to really start leaving a notepad in the bathroom, because there I always come up with the best thoughts for our weekly Carnival posts. It is just kind of tricky to write thoughts down when you are in the shower . I think I come up with thoughts getting ready, because that is my uninterrupted time with God. Where we just talk (and I actually listen)…

So why can’t we age gracefully? Why is it for women harder than for men? Because our youthful beauty is fleeting? You see the world associates youth/age with beauty. Even Christians buy this lie. The world bombards us with products that offer a solution to not ‘getting old’. No matter were we turn, if in a magazine (yes even Christian ones) or in the store. Here is a cream to remove wrinkles under and over your eyes. There is a lotion that promises to keep your legs ‘youthful’. Or just think about all the hair products you can purchase to change your look to something more ‘youthful’ – take out the gray. I do have to admit; I like highlights in my hair to keep it from getting dull…I have my daily moisturizer so I don’t dry out (or shrivel up?).

But really think about the outward appearance, does that reallyJoy in Christ keep us ‘young’? Isn’t age just a number? Look again what God is saying in Proverbs: “beauty is fleeting” and I would say the outward beauty is fleeting…I don’t think that any kind of product on this earth really can make us youthful/beautiful. No money in the world can make us skip, being young, being joyous. There is only one thing. The joy we have to follow our Lord and be His hands and feet to share the precious Gospel with others. We glow when we share the good news – believe me – I have seen it in other women (and sometimes I have that twinkle in my eyes)…His Spirit keeps us youthful until eternity…

“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” 1 Peter 3:3-4 (NIV)

Carnival Day – Technology

Carnival LogoGood morning to all and happy Wednesday. I hope to find you all well…It is carnival day and actually the topic on technology was a great one for me. I could’ve written a two pager on this one, but I think you would not have appreciated such a long post – lol.

Visit Ellen at MzEllen & Co. to venture out to other Christian bloggers and read their thoughts on technology.

I think it is great to stay ‘in-touch’ via our blogs and email – don’t you?…The world has become smaller through the internet and email…I love it.

Next week’s Carnival of Beauty is hosted my Carol at She Lives. The topic: “The Beauty of Aging Gracefully” (much harder topic for me to think about). If you never have participated in the carnival, there is always time to start. You find the details about the Carnival at Sallie’s Two Talent Living…I hope to see you next week at Carol’s place.

Additional thoughts for today: I just finished reading my Encouragement for Today devotion and it is oh so fitting for me today. Here is a little excerpt:

“I wondered: Is it possible to be close to God in the midst of a busy, demanding life? Is it realistic to “be still and know that He is God” (Psalm 46:10) when everything else in my life is calling out for my attention? How can I endeavor to make sure I am “close to You” God? Oh, how I long to be close to You!”

What would have happened if…

…Paul would’ve had access to the Internet?

Technology is great, as long as it works. We had some challenges at the start of the LYB blog Bible study, put Lauren made it all work. Now we have a nifty little table at the end of our LYB posts and can this way connect to other believers who are studying the same material. I think it is awesome that we can do that in our day and age. We can take Bible studies on-line, in the comfort of our own home and reach across the ocean. Sure, Bible study on-line misses the part of true fellowship, but you can build that. Don’t you agree?

So, back to my question. What would’ve Paul done with internet access? Would’ve he had written his letters to the churches via email? Would’ve he had blogged to get to his audience? I think he would have… spreading the Gospel much faster. No more long road travels, no more ship wrecks…Wahoo…I can actually picture Paul, sitting at the front of his PC and typing away…His email list at the fingertip and whoosh – of goes the email to build up the churches. Sure, travel would be still involved, but just as a guest speaker. He could just publish his sermons on the internet, like so many others today.

Okay, so Paul didn’t have internet access; he didn’t blog. But a lot of Christians do blog in this day and age. And I think we have a responsibility to 1) spread the Gospel and 2) to build each other up. Sure, we don’t all belong to the same denomination; we have different views on baptism and the Lord’s supper; we read different Bible versions. But we all believe that there is one God; Jesus died for our sins and we are lead by the Holy Spirit to live a life pleasing to God. And we don’t have to work for our salvation, just believe… Don’t you agree? So, why can’t we just build each other up as the Bible tells us. Why do we have to tear down our brothers and sisters in the faith if they don’t ‘behave’ as we think they should ‘behave’? Why do we so easily forget that we are all sinners? Jeana had a great post about different views and she really made me think how fast we are to point fingers at our brothers and sisters, because we have a different view on things.

I have seen many Christian bloggers get hurt over the short time I have been blogging…If you disagree with a view a fellow believer has, why not contact them in ‘private’, via email. ‘Talk’ about your different views. We all have different views…The Internet can be powerful – we as Christians can use it to our advantage. We can stand united as one in Christ and show ‘baby Christians’ and unbelievers what it truly means to be a Christian…Pray for each other. We all have the same enemy – and it is not your brother or sister in Christ.

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.” ~ Eph 4:29-30 (NIV)
