Leaving a Legacy?

I thought about the whole notion of “reproduction,” and what it really means to replicate yourself. Is it merely about the passing on of eyes and chins and hair color? Or is it, rather, the replication of the heart? Do we leave a bigger mark by passing on our genes, or our thoughts?”
~ Shannon Woodward ~

I remember after we got married how much I yearned to have a child; actually I wanted many :).

It took us two years to conceive. I had the perfect pregnancy. I wasn’t sick at all (just lost a little weight through the first 3 months) and I ate sensible. On June 11th, 1985, I gave birth to a perfect little bundle of joy. I was afraid leaving the hospital, because I didn’t know if I could handle the responsibility to raise a child…But I had help. My hubby was the greatest. He gave our son baths, changed diapers, helped as much as he could…and his favorite part, reading Dr. Seuss to Daniel. We had great years, we had challenging years (I just say teens ~ had major help there from the Lord)…But all-in-all is was a great joy to raise a child.

Yeah, we only had one chance to pass on our ‘legacy’. Daniel has great features from the both of us, but also some traits that ~ well lets just say that are not so good. Did we do everything right raising our son? To be honest, I don’t know and only time will tell. The most important part though is that our son knows the Lord…

Thinking about the quote all day, it hit me at lunch time. Do we only reproduce through our own flesh & blood? Not really. We can also share our values and beliefs with people who are not related to us. Isn’t that what the Lord called us to do? Share the Good News will the entire world; who ever wants to listen to us. We can plant seeds all over the world, especially through our Blogs :). God can make it grow…So, even if you don’t have children on your own, you can pass on your belief with sharing the Good News…

“And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Go your way; behold, I am sending you out as lambs in the midst of wolves.” ~ Luke 10:2-3 (RSV)

Monday Morning Blogstops

Psalm 46

Well, here we go again. But isn’t it great to wake up and know that you can serve Him somewhere today? This week? No matter where you live or work, you always can make someone smile .

This morning I want to share some links with you to check out…

  • Christie at Crickl’s Nest is mourning the loss of her father. Would you do me a huge favor and stop by today? Pray for her and her family, would you?
  • Friday’s Child is mourning the loss of her sister-in-law, but also is celebrating the birth of her new grandson.
  • On a much happier note this morning, check out CWO’s blog. Carol posted her first post over there. And what a great post it is. But then again, no surprise there – right? You will find a wonderful link in that post. There are many ways God can use our talents.
  • And the last link I wanted to share with you this Monday morning: Spiritually Unequal Marriage. This is a new blog to me! Oh and what a find it is. Check it out for yourself…

Okay – I better get my booty in gear and get ready for work. I just hope that the weather will continue to dry out ~ we were able to run the swamp-cooler last night. Oh, so much better sleeping.

You all have a blessed Monday…and make someone smile .

Encourage Each Other…

As I mentioned last week, I would like to share my own personal thoughts (not based on any denomination) on Snippets from the Word. I am so glad that Darlene added it to the Enzine …Today I would like to share with you some thoughts on Saturday’s reading ~ 1 Thessalonians 5

“But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him. Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.”
~ 1 Thessalonians 5:8-10 (ESV)

It is a dog-eat-dog world out there. It is so hard to stay focused on the race He has set before us ~ to be the light. Have you noticed that the attack on Christians gets more fierce? I read a bumper sticker the other day that read: “I like your God, but I don’t like His Christians”. Ouch! Why do you think that is? Is it because we don’t stand as one? Is it because we fight amongst each other? Even have lawsuits against each other? I know it is true for ‘my’ own denomination. The lawsuits I mean…So sad!!!

Brothers and sisters in faith, remember that we belong to the light and not to the darkness. Attacking each other is what the devil wants us to do. He wants to put a wedge between followers of the Truth. We all sin; we all fall short of the Glory of God, but through His blood we are cleansed. We stand righteous before Him. Don’t grieve His Spirit fighting against each other but encourage each other in the walk…

Lord, let Your light be evident to all who come in contact with me. Let my words be few, but my actions talk about Your righteous. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen

Too Salty for You?

“Salt, when dissolved in water, may disappear, but it does not cease to exist.
We can be sure of its presence by tasting the water. Likewise, the indwelling Christ, though unseen, will be made evident to others from the love which He imparts to us.”
~Sadhu Sundar Singh~

Can we be too salty for an unbeliever with the love we show them? Really, that is serious question, because I think that we can ~ in the eyes of an unbeliever, I mean.

This past weekend I encountered someone that really does not like Christians at all ~ that is mildly put. We are snobs, trailer trash and mindless puppets that repeat what they are feed (not my words)…

Are we really that bad, because we tell people, in love, that Christ is the only way to heaven? In the eyes of an unbeliever, we are intolerant, an exclusive club. Even when you tell them that God Himself is saying that there is only One Way, we are ‘all-knowing’…Hm? I really never, ever encountered something even close to it.

What would you tell someone who is really not seeing the Light and ask you what they need to be saved for anyway? Well, my answer was: from Hell…But then again, if someone does not believe in Heaven or Hell, than that is a mute point. I was really agonizing and praying for this person since Sunday. I really felt bad that I used Hell in connection with His love…Then this morning 1 Samuel came to mind:

“But when they said, “Give us a king to lead us,” this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the LORD. And the LORD told him: “Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king. As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you. Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will do.” ~ 1 Samuel 8:6-9

Is that also true for unbelieving people, who get abusive with their language, when they hear the message of salvation? The don’t reject the message, but the love of God?

So, next time someone is rejecting the salty message you give them that there is only One Way to heaven, don’t fret like me. Get on your knees and pray that God will transform the salt into sugar…

And in case you are an unbeliever right now, but still read this blog for one reason or another…See the red “Ready” button on my sidebar? Click it and you might find some answers to the questions you have about salvation…
