“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.†– Romans 8:1-2 NIV
This verse came up in a discussion yesterday and it came back to me tonight as I was preparing dinner for my guys. Paul is talking about the bondage we have to sin, which ends in death. First spiritually and then the ultimate death of the body. He is also talking about how Christ is the fulfillment of the law. I know that I would never be able to fulfill God’s law to His satisfaction. No person can.
Does that mean that we don’t have to honor the Ten Commandments? Of course not, because the Ten Commandments show us our daily sin. I guess that is why some people say that they don’t need Jesus, because they don’t recognize that they are sinning. They do not acknowledge that the Ten Commandments were given to us to show us how God wants us to live our lives. They say “I am a good person – I do good things for people”. They might be very good people, but still, do they fulfill God’s perfect law? I don’t think so, because it is our nature to be sinful.
So, be honest, look at the Ten Commandments, and if you can honestly say that you can fulfill them, then you are a much better person than I am.
