And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.
~ Luke 2:6-7 (ESV)

Advent ~ a season of anticipation ~ a season of longing for peace on earth…I know it is true for me. I have wonderful memories of advent growing up, and that is one area in my life I try to continue in my own household…

As we are getting ready for the ‘busy’ season this year, let us also prepare our hearts for the true reason for the season: “(Advent) It is that hope, however faint at times, and that God, however distant He sometimes seems, which brings to the world the anticipation of a King who will rule with truth and justice and righteousness over His people and in His creation. It is that hope that once anticipated, and now anticipates anew, the reign of an Anointed One, a Messiah, who will bring peace and justice and righteousness to the world.” (quoted from The Voice).

This year I am planning on expanding sharing the reason for Christmas at my workplace. The idea came when I found this wonderful devotional written by Ann Voskamp from Holy Experience: “The Glorious Coming“. I plan to buy a little Christmas tree for my cubicle and add the little ornaments on a daily basis. Maybe God can use it for me to witness. Tell others that Christmas is not about the new car in the driveway, or the new digital camera, or the latest gaming devise…

Will you join me? Will you share with others the coming of our Lord this advent season?

“And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. ~ Luke 2:10-11 (ESV)

  1. I have got a real ‘itch’ to share the real meaning of Christmas with my little ones and to move away from Santa focus. We are going to really try to celebrate Advent and to get excited about the real magical meaning of Christmas…maybe our enthusiasm will rub off on our friends 🙂

  2. I just went and read the sites you linked to – the advent site is lovely and I am thinking of buying the devotional and doing it with my family – thanks Iris! 🙂

  3. This is great Iris. I want to share about the true meaning of Christmas too on my blog during December. Pray for inspiration for me.

    Blessings to you!

  4. I love Advent too! Thanks for reminding me to put my thinking cap on. We have a family meal every Sunday, and this one coming up should be special. (Right now I’m thinking about turkey and all the trimmings for Thursday!) With all the Christmas music in the air, the Advent season is such a natural time to share the Gospel with unbelievers… and I do!
