BibleSurfing BE last night, I came across a post by StoneMonkey45 that caught my eye…It is called “Blogging for Jesus”. Strangely I was not even offended by it, but it rather made me sad. Here is an excerpt of the post:

“How come the Blogging for Jesus fraternity never have anything positive to say, why is it always criticism of the way everyone else is living. Is it easier to rise to the top by putting everyone else down instead of working to be a better person yourself?”

Yes, some Christian bloggers come across rather harsh and self-righteous. They do miss the point of God’s forgiveness, grace & mercy. For the most part though, the “Blogging for Jesus fraternity” knows that we have falling short, that we are sinners and in need of a Savior.
In condemning others we condemn ourselves, as Scripture tells us:

“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” – Matthew 7:1-2

And Paul in Romans 2:1:

“You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things”.

The other day I read a quote by J. Vernon McGee:

“The only exercise some Christians get is running down others and jumping to conclusions.”

I pray that, through the power of the Holy Spirit, I reflect Jesus’ love for all sinners, especially unbelievers through this blog…And become a better witness to share God’s grace & mercy…

  1. I am Ben’s wife. I hope I don’t come across as condemning, however you have touched on an issue that came up last night and this morning. I found a blog that was talking only about God’s love, kindness, mercy, especially that He is slow to anger. However I was convicted that God is a wrathful God as well. Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed, because they refused to repent. God wiped out the Canaanites and the Israelites moved in. And in Revelation, the kindreds of the earth will wail at the second coming of Jesus. Later in Revelation He treads the winepress of the wrath of His fury. Last night, I tried commenting on the site, and was blocked because I am computer illiterate to some extent. This morning in my devotions, I randomly turned to Isaiah. I was again struck with the urgent need to warn sinners of their sinful state. If they do not see their sin, how can they turn from it. I am not saying to judge. I am saying to speak the truth in love, have charity, but warn sinners of God’s coming wrath on Judgment Day.

  2. No, Ladybex, you don’t come across as condemning, you just point out that God wants people to repent, and that He has to take sometimes measures that seam to be drastic to the unbeliever. I am glad that you pointed this out :).
I was just trying to make the point that we are all in need of a Savior, we need to repent from our sins (such as self righteousness), and that most people of the Christian “fraternity” are not self righteous…
Like my pastor always says: “Don’t condemn the sinner, but the sin”.

  3. You go girl!!! You are doing an awesome job with this blog, and I pray that you keep witnessing to more and more people. After all, that is what our “job” is.

  4. Hello, I am glad you where not offended by the post on my blog as that was not my intention at all.

Although I have always been an atheist, growing up I always thought of Christians as essentially good people striving to better themselves and their family through their faith and if possible use the joy it that brought then to interest others in the word of god.
In later years especially since reading some of the essentially hateful stuff said on the web in the name of Christianity I have felt saddened and that view of Christians is changing to one of people who use the bible as a way of giving themselves a higher social status by deeming others unworthy. I did come across a Christian blog who posted a picture of flowers on a mountain and spoke about the wonders god created and that made me smile, but such positive Christian thoughts seem to be rare.

  5. Thank you, Stone Monkey 45 for your comment back. I really appreciated it.
I think I know what you mean regarding ‘hateful stuff’. But I think those kind of ‘posts’ or internet material don’t have anything to do with our faith in Christ, they might have to do with religion, but not our faith.
Also, Christians can not better themselves, we have to confess our sins to God, and through the blood of Christ only, we are cleansed and live a life according to His will…
    In His peace,
