Psalms Sunday

Psalm 4
Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness!
You have given me relief when I was in distress.
Be gracious to me and hear my prayer!

O men, how long shall my honor be turned into shame?
How long will you love vain words and seek after lies? Selah
But know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself;
the Lord hears when I call to him.

Be angry, and do not sin;
ponder in your own hearts on your beds, and be silent. Selah
Offer right sacrifices,
and put your trust in the Lord.

There are many who say, “Who will show us some good?
Lift up the light of your face upon us, O Lord!”
You have put more joy in my heart
than they have when their grain and wine abound.

In peace I will both lie down and sleep;
for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety. (ESV)

Don’t you just love it how confident David is in this Psalm? I do. David shows me that I can approach the throne of grace with confidence…No matter how much men (or women) try to harm me in this life, I can be certain that God will see me through. I also have to agree with David that there is no greater joy than God himself. We try to hard sometimes (with worldly things) to find joy. But God is the only one who can give it to us.

I think that sometimes we don’t approach the throne with the confidence like David did — or the widow in Luke 18. I give up on some of my prayer, because I think God doesn’t hear them. But then again, I have to be patient – right? His timing is not my timing. It might be years before I get an answer…

So, I choose to trust in my Lord and be confident when I pray. I know that He has set me apart and He hears my call.
