I have to admit, I am not a football follower or even a fan. Before you go “BOOOOOO”, let me explain. I don’t understand enough of the game — I didn’t grow up with it. I am a soccer fan, but football – no…
So, now you are probably scratching your head, wondering why in the world I am posting about football. Sure, the AZ Cardinals are in the ‘Big Game‘ today (can’t use the ‘S’ word, since it is protected by the NFL — don’t ask). But that is not the reason why I am proud of the Cardinals — I don’t jump on the perpetual ‘Bandwagon‘.
What struck me this past week was that many, many Arizonans wear t-shirts with the slogan “We believe”. Hm…For the Cardinals to win the Big Game? Maybe. I wish they would believe a little more deeper; deeper like the AZ Cardinal Quarterback, Kurt Warner.
Did you know that Kurt Warner is a confessing Christian? If you ever heard him talk in public, he not only confesses Christ in his heart, but also with his mouth (paraphrase Romans 10:9). Have you ever visited his personal site “First Things First”? His intro to his site references Matthew 6:33:
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (ESV)
I admire Mr. Warner, not because of what he accomplishes on the field (well, okay, that too), but that he is open with his faith and publicly confesses Christ as Lord. My hat goes off to you, Mr. Warner. May God continue to bless your playing career and your charities.
Will I cheer for AZ Cardinals today — hope they win? Sure, but for a different reason that you might think…
Thanks for stopping by today. Be blessed and as always…
Okay now I’m really curious why you can’t say the words Super Bowl in your post. I’d like to know how they would copyright a word. Oh well. I loved your post and it’s funny because we don’t watch a lot of football, (unless the Patriots are playing), but we were talking about the two team and how when we were both little we loved the Steelers and then my Dad chimed in and said how there were quite a few Christians on that team. So we’re both like yeah okay we’ll cheer for them. Now after reading this I don’t know who to cheer for LOL. I’m so confused. Ha! Ha! Have a great Sunday Iris. No matter who wins today I still have to get out of bed tomorrow LOL.
Blessings,
Kim

We don’t really have a “team” in this superbowl, but I’m pulling for the Cardinals because of Curt Warner. He is an inspiration and a true role model I think.

I don’t blame you. It’s a complicated game. I’ve been watching my whole life long and don’t quite understand it all.
We need more Kurt Warners in the NFL. I was rooting for them!
