On a daily basis we are making choices, good ones and bad ones. To tell you the truth, after a day like today, I wanted to make some bad choices. Actually yesterday wasn’t a good workday either, but I managed to stay focused on the good things.
Some days are so challenging and it is not easy to stay focused on the truly important things in life. I was ready to use some bad language today and just wanted to give up. After a long day in the office, I was glad to get into my car. But it didn’t stop; I banged my head on the car, because I was too much in a hurry to get home. Sitting in my car with tears running down my cheeks, I just wanted to scream!
But then, as so often, God’s word came to mind:

“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable‚—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy‚—think about such things.” ~Philippians 4:7-8 (NIV)

Yes, I could have let myself go and swear, get angry, get even, but God reminded me that in Him I can find peace. When I fix my eyes on Him, my choices are made easy.
Although my head and my ego are still bruised, I am at peace tonight! My hope for you is that if you have a down right rotten day, rembemer His word to give you peace.

  1. I have a really tough time remembering this sometimes, too. Then, when I think about it, I realize those are days I either didn’t begin my day focused on Him in prayer and in His word, or else I went through the motions, but didn’t have my heart and mind focused on Him as I did it.

    Still learning…And I need to memorize that verse once and for all. It’s like it hovers around me, but I never do get it verbatim. Thanks for the nudge!
