Thankful Thursday ~ Love

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
~ 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (ESV ~ emphasis mine)

I think that 1 Corinthians is the best known love passage (besides John 3:16 of course); I know it is often used during a wedding ceremony. However I love to apply these passages to my entire life, not only to my marriage. The passages truly help me to keep the focus in times I encounter some very unlovable people.

I have encountered such a person yesterday; and to be honest with you — I didn’t handle myself very well. This morning I was reminded of the above Scriptures, especially “it is not irritable or resentful”…oh my – did I mess up…Today was a much better day, because I kept the passages in my head and on my heart šŸ™‚

Yes, love is a powerful word. Most of the times love is connected with feelings, but sometimes our feelings get hijacked by the day-to-day grind…So, I have to look to my Lord to keep me focused to love the unlovable…

  • Thank You Lord for reminding me this morning that Your love is perfect. If I slip, You make sure how much I am loved by You — what You gave up for me…
  • I am thankful for my beloved, who loves me in the unlovable moments. If you knew me in person, I am very straight forward and speak what is on my mind. My beloved always listens to what I have to say, but lets me know (in love) when I am wrong…
  • I am thankful for my marriage. Although it is not perfect, but ‘love covers all…’
  • I am thankful for my mom, who loves me only like a mother can love…
  • I am thankful for our son, whom I love only a mother can love šŸ˜‰ …
  • I am thankful for my friends who always remind me to look to our loving God when I need directions in life…

What are you thankful for this week? Please do share with us in leaving your link below. Please only link if you have written a TT post this week – thank you from the bottom of my heart…

Thank you for stopping by today. Remember: God’s love is perfect, ours is not. Let us keep our eyes fixed on the One who perfected love.

Blessings to you always…

Thankful Thursday ~ Precious Words

ā€œThis is my comfort in my affliction,
that your promise gives me life.ā€ ~ Psalm 119:50 (ESV)

Godā€™s Word to me is the best comfort there is ā€“ donā€™t you agree? Yesterday morning I read Loriā€™s interview with Rebecca St. James at CWOā€™s web-site. One particular phrase hit me right between the eyes: ā€œI want to thrive, not just surviveā€. But how I can thrive? Only by staying close to His Wordā€¦So this year, from time-to-time, I would like to share passages from His precious Word with you during our Thankful Thursday gatherings.

One Bible I carry with me at all times is my ā€˜preciousā€™ all worn out — pages falling out — taped back together — highlighted in different colors — New Living Translation. Although we are using the ESV at church (which I also use it for my studies), the NLT was the best for me to make the transition from German to English. I know ā€“ it is only a thought-for-thought translationā€¦I think it is a great ā€˜entry levelā€™ translation to His Wordā€¦IMHO šŸ™‚ . I hope you donā€™t mind that I share passages from ‘my’ NLT today.

I am thankful for His precious Word…

  • He has removed our sins as far from us
as the east is from the west. ~ Psalm 103:12
  • “You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.ā€ ~ Matthew 17:20
  • When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. ~ Mark 4:39
  • Then Jesus called to the crowd to come and hear. “All of you listen,” he said, “and try to understand. It’s not what goes into your body that defiles you; you are defiled by what comes from your heart.” ~ Mark 7:14-15
  • And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul’s message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth. As a result, many Jews believed, as did many of the prominent Greek women and men. ~ Acts 17:11-12

Thankful Thursday ~ Looking Back

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” ~ Jeremiah 29:11 (ESV)

Yes, I am glad that 2008 is behind us; I am looking forward to 2009. I would love all of you to join us at Laurel Wreath’s Reflection over the next week to share your hopes, dreams, or goals for 2009. To find out more about our ‘New Year’s Meditation’, please read Laurel’s post here

Last week I had asked you to look back on 2008 to share what or who had the most impact on you in 2008? I know, looking back is sometimes painful, but you know what; even in painful times there is always something on the horizon that we can be thankful for…

I have shared with you the passage of Jeremiah because it was ‘my’ verse for 2008. Believe me, the verse has been very vital to me in 2008 — I have clung to it like nothing else. I know that I needed to grow; I just didn’t like painful part.

  • Lord, I am thankful for your pruning in 2008. I didn’t like it, but I know that I needed to get rid of some stuff. Why, Lord, does the issue of pride always rears its ugly head? Will this be my thorn until I enter eternity? I sure hope not. Please help me in 2009 to be more aware of it; help me to nip it when it starts…
  • Lord, I am thankful for our marriage. Although we had some waves hitting our marriage, I thank You for keeping a hedge around it to protect it from evil forces…
  • Lord, I am thankful for our son’s growth this year. Lord, this was the most painful experience for me this past year; to let go and let You handle the rest. I know I should be glad to have our son all grown-up, but it is hard to let go. Lord, I thank You for the strength You gave me to keep going…
  • Lord, I am thankful for friends that speak the truth. Yes, it sure is not easy to admit failures, but I rather have truthful friends than someone who is just saying nice things…
  • Lord, most of all, I am thankful for Your faithfulness. The days I didn’t feel like doing much, You reminded me that I needed to let Your light shine. For when I was weak, Your Word gave me the strength. When I felt low, You reminded me of the sacrifice You made sending Your son to rescue me…
  • Lord, last but not least, I am thankful for the book “3:16”. I believe ‘picking apart’ the passage of John 3:16 has made it clear to me that You do not wish that anyone perishes, but that all who believe can be saved. Yes, I have read the passage more than once, but the impact it had on me in 2008 is indescribable…

What are you thankful for this week? I hope you share with us by leaving your link below. Remember: God has a plan for you – to prosper you and not to harm you – believe my sweet friend!!!!

Blessings to you today and always…
