The 11th Hour

“And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing. And he said to them, ‘Why do you stand here idle all day?’ They said to him, ‘Because no one has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You go into the vineyard too.’” ~ Matthew 20:6-7

Some of us are ‘life-long’ Christians; some of us wander off to see what else is out there (people like me). Others don’t trust in the Lord for salvation until the 11th hour…

Thankful Thursday ~ Life

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” ~ John 3:16-17
(ESVemphasis mine)

This week the ‘theme’ life – physical and spiritual life – kept running through my mind…Normally I share a list with you, but this week I would like to share some thoughts with you.

On Monday the mood at work was a little somber. One of my co-workers passed away on Saturday – unexpectedly. He was my age — heart attack. That really brought life back into perspective; how short it can be. Here today, gone tomorrow came to mind.

How do I spend my life that was given to me? Do I make a difference in someone’s life? Do I live life for myself; for others? Do I live my life fully for Him, in Him?

Yes, I know – a lot of questions. You do not want to know what is going on in my head most of the time…always thinking.

That brings me to today’s passage I chose for myself to reflect on. I am currently reading Max Lucado’s book “3:16” (you can find a link in my sidebar). How many times have I heard/read the passage? Too many to count. Did I ever reflect on it fully? Do I truly understand what it means? In reading the book, I have to admit – no!!! But those thoughts are for another post 😉 .

Eternal Life??? In today’s world, not many put their focus on eternal life, but life here and now. Live life to the fullest — with no regrets. To be honest, I don’t want to live life like that. I am thankful that because of Christ’s sacrifice, I can not only enjoy a physical life here and now, but also have eternal life.

Without the hope of eternal life, or even the spiritual life, I don’t know where I would be today. There are many people in my personal life that have suffered greatly – physically speaking. But they all had the hope that one day, there would be no more pain, no more tears. They all fixed their eyes on heaven; lived through their physical challenges because of the hope Christ gave them…Yeah – I want to live life like that…with hope of a better tomorrow…

What are you thankful for this week. Please do share with us in leaving your link below.

Thank you for stopping by today. Remember: John 3:16 😛 …no matter what life throws at you, He already redeemed you in giving His life for yours.

Be blessed today and as always…

Thankful Thursday ~ Random

“Know that the LORD, he is God!
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name!”
~ Psalm 100:3-4 (ESV)

Today I came across Psalm 100. What a powerful Psalm!!! No matter what happens today, tomorrow, or the next day; we know we belong to Him – the God who made us. Some people might tell you “How can you believe Him…”? I have to say that when looking back at my life, I know He was there at all times. Even when I was sad of things not coming true, I know that it was all for a reason. He knows what is best for me – I can trust His judgment…

Today, I just want to share a short list of random things I am thankful for…just marveling at the little things of life…

  • Lord, thank You for your faithfulness. It is good to know that I belong to You, that You will never let go. I know that sometimes I do not understand the reason for things happening or not happening, but I know that I can trust You…
  • I am thankful for my beloved. Lately I have been tired a lot due to over-load at work. He understands. He loves, he hugs, he comforts…He told me last night that “as long as you love me, all is good…” – Oh do I love him, but I also respect him for who he is in our relationship…
  • I am thankful for the Saturday we spent with our son a couple of weekends ago. It was so nice to just hang out with him. I am thankful for his independence…
  • I am thankful for the email I received from my sister last night. It is nice to know that I am missed by my family in Germany…I miss them just as much…
  • Last, but not least I am thankful that I am almost done with recreating the LWG blogroll. Like Mary said on my post from Monday “…because we expect the internet and all it contains to be perfect. And it’s not, obviously.”…oh so true…

What are you thankful for this week? Please do share with us by leaving your link below…

Back to Basics

“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be acceptable in your sight,
O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.” ~ Psalm 19:14 (ESV)

Humanity is looking for something – something better. We are all searching for hope – for an ‘easier’ life – for purpose. The problem is that we sometimes look in the wrong places.

From where I am standing, life is hard. Yes, I struggle with life, with people, with circumstances, with every day ‘stuff’. I would lie if I’d tell you that life is ‘peachy’. Let me share my secret on how to travel the road of life. Let me introduce you to my personal ‘self-help’ book I refer to daily. It gives me strength, peace, comfort, joy, hope, direction. I am confident that the Author of this particular ‘self-help’ book is trustworthy. You are wondering what I am talking about? The Bible of course.

Some might say that the Bible does not apply to today’s society; it is too ancient, times have changed. I beg to differ. God is still God; humans are still the same as they were thousands of years ago. Nothing has changed. Except that 2,000 years ago, God provided a way ‘out’. He sent His one and only Son to die for the sins of this world…to give us a hope, a future.

Over the past two years many self-help and New Age books have flooded the market. What concerns me is that we, as believers get caught up with the masses. Even some Christian authors forsake the Truth to market their books – to have a book on the “Hot Seller” list. The Gospel message is rewritten to appeal to the masses.

Let me tell you: the Gospel message is appealing to the masses by itself. There is nothing more pure, full of truth to read God’s promise in John 3:16-17 (ESV):

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.”

There are different translations of the Bible out there. It can get confusing. Do your own research on which Bible translation is best for you. All Bibles are translated from the original languages Hebrew and Greek. The difference is that the translations are either word for word (NASB, KJV, NKYV, ESV, NRSV, NAB), thought for thought (NIV, NLT, NJB, CEV), or paraphrased (TLB and MSG). No matter which translation, it is God’s Truth, the best ‘self-help’ book on the market. Get back to basics – no New Age book can come even close…

My friend Lynn posted a very thought provoking post on Monday. Over the last couple of days I prayed if I should blog about my own thoughts – on what is going on in the Christian (writing) community; what unbelievers think of Christians. The more I prayed, the clearer it became – I have to. I hope that God will give me courage to share more of my thoughts over next several weeks. How about you? I would love to hear about your own thoughts…

Blessings to you and as always…
