“So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” ~ John 8:31-32, 36 (ESV)
Lynn, our hostess of Thankful Thursday in October, is writing about freedom in Christ this week. Lynn asked the question “What victories has Christ given you?” I heart this question!
I don’t know if it is me getting older or wiser (doubt that one), but I finally understand what it means to be free in Christ. You see, being free in Him makes it easier to be more loving and compassionate. Even on the not so good days, I am reminded how much I have been forgiven. That at one time I was not a very lovable person, but He forgave me anyway.
As I am typing my thankful post thinking about ‘breaking free’, the song ‘Fly Away’ comes to mind. The one line “no more shackles on my feet…” plays over and over in my head. Every day I hear one link of the chain drop down. Oh what sweet victory not to have to perform to make it to heaven. Today I am trying to do good because one day I see my Savior face-to-face…
What are you thankful for this week? Please head on over to my friend Lynn’s blog “Spiritually Unequal Marriage“. Lynn is hosting the entire month of October, Laurie at “Women Taking a Stand” will be hosting November, and back at my place in December (wow Christmas is just around the corner)…
Thanks for stopping by today. Remember: freedom in Him means no more shackles on our feet.
I love that image of ‘no more shackles on our feet’.
I hope to never take my freedom from the penalty for my sin for granted. Thanks for the reminder Iris.
Love you,
Debbie
Amen, beautifully said sis.
Amen Iris.
AMEN… No more shackles on our feet.
Love you my friend. Happy TT
Oh Yes, what sweet victory not to have to perform to make it to heaven. I’ve been set free! Thank You Jesus!
Amen!! It’s so wonderful to be free in Christ!
I am so thankful we don’t have to perform to receive salvation!
I’m thankful we don’t have to earn our salvation as well, because I can say like you did: “one time I was not a very lovable person, but He forgave me anyway.” Praise God!
No more shackles, learning to flow with unforced rhythm of grace that is mine in Him….what gifts…His ways not mine…embracing that Love as Truth today…so glorious.
Praise God that we don’t have to perform for salvation.
Loved this TT post, thanks for sharing.
Hope your having a blessed day.
Hugs,
Cindy
Praise God that He sets us free! Thanks for sharing, Iris!
Living for Him, Joan
I was raised strick pentacostal. I have so many wonderful memories but the process of understanding what Freedom Christ paid for us has been such a spectacular journey. Your blog made me think of so many ways I am living a free life because of Him and how fun it is to continue experiencing the newness of freedoms daily as His Love becomes more vivid. Wow… it is so wonderful. Thank you.
Hi Iris, Thanks for another great TT! The song that comes to my mind as I read your post is by Mary Mary. Its called “Shackles” (Praise You). You can google it and the music video comes up. It will be hard for you to sit still!
🙂 Thank you, Lord, for breaking every chain.
Oophs.. forgot to change my link. This is the correct one for this week.
Well said and received. Have a wonderful weekend!
No more shackles…
Great thoughts for today Iris.
HOpe you had a great day.
Hello, this is my 1st time to try to tag in to this fine Meme. I have grappled with being set free from so many things. His word is freedom and I\’m finally learning to tackle those thoughts and fight with the word of God. 🙂
