I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples;
I will sing praises to you among the nations.
~ Psalm 57:9 (ESV)
Several weeks ago I mentioned how grateful I am for the weekly calls with my mom. They always lift my spirit. There is one thing that is more exciting than the weekly calls; the times I get a care package from home.
I get them three times a year: Easter, Christmas and my birthday 🙂 . This year for my birthday I requested some “Erdnussflips”. Oh, they are so yummy. I am rationing them to myself, because I could eat a bag in one sitting. I think for Christmas I would like 4 bags (pretty please, mom).
I am thankful that my mom takes time selecting things that bring a smile to me face (like the birthday card “from the heart”). Oh, my heart so longs to stroll down-town Hannover with my mom next to me. Although I could not make it this year, my mom and I are planning to fly me out in Spring of 2011 – YEAH!
What are you thankful for this week? Please share with us by leaving your link to your Thankful Thursday post below. I will be hosting one more time this month; in October we are meeting over at my friend Lynn’s blog “Spiritually Unequal Marriage“; my friend Laurie will be hosting in November at “Women Taking a Stand“.
One more thing before I ‘sign-off’ today: check out this week’s giveaway.
Thank you for stopping by today. Remember: little care packages or notes can cheer up a friend 🙂 …

Oh Iris,
You are just a delight.. What are Erdnussflips??? Girl, I know you have a birthday coming up. I am hugging you and praying that your BIG day is awesome. Love you much.
Wow your mom is so sweet and thougthful. I think almost all of the mom does:) When I celebrate my birthday last week they came from the province just to celebrate it with me and brought goods from our hometown:)
This post made me smile. I remember a college buddy who would leave care packages (big and small) at my door. They usually came when I really needed a “lift.”
That is so sweet, that after all these years, your mother is still doing that for you. Happy TT!
p.s The anti-spam word is Jesus.
I love typing His name almost as much as I do saying it 🙂
I have no idea what Erdnussflips are????? But how fun to receive care packages.
I have a wonderful mom also. Priceless. I also have a September birthday! Happy Birthday Iris! Hugs
I have a German friend who used to bring me Katyas whenever she went home to visit (I think I got the name right, it has been a while…black licorice cats?). I loved those. I have not found anything like them here.
My grandmother used to send me packages of “treasures” when I was a child. They would have Avon samples of perfume and lip gloss, junk jewelry, pens from businesses, pads of paper, articles and the “fun page” from her local paper, and whatever else struck her fancy. I LOVED those things. It really built up our relationship just to know she was thinking of me. I thought that stuff was worth a mint, and it was…priceless.
Hey Iris, so thankful for you hosting this month. You really got our curiosity up though…I can’t spell it or even pronounce it – but I want to know what it is that your mom sends you? Its got to be heavenly! Love ya!
I agree, care packages are so wonderful sweet friend.
Surprises in the mail are so fun! Thanks for sharing your special package with us. I’m excited for you to get to go visit.
God bless,
Bethany
That’s a wonderful thing to be thankful for….thoughtfulness from others! 🙂
You sound so happy! Family can make you feel so good! Your Mom sounds so wonderful! You are blessed little lamb! Have a great day!
Wonderful to receive those little gifts from the ones we love. Thank you for helping us express our gratitude every time we can. My first time here in Thankful Thursday
Thanks for this post – it reminded me of my calling, which is to be an encourager. I love sending cards to people but have slacked off over the last months … I must begin again!
How fun to get care packages! 🙂 I love getting ones at random times from my MIL. She goes garage-sailing, and sends us her findings. We love it, because we never know when they’re coming.
So cool.
How sweet! Thanks for sharing and for giving us all a reminder to give thanks for our many blessings.
This is really sweet! I am so glad to here this!
I am so thankful for thankful Thursday! I can’t wait to read through everyones posts!
When I was in college, my mom often sent me care packages. Most had chocolate chip cookies, and when she heard the postal service worker was envious as he watched me open them, she sent him some, too. Moms are the best!
How awesome that you have your care packages to look forward to. The “pretty please mom” brought a smile to my face. Maybe she’ll send you five bags instead of four:)
I don’t know what Erdnussflips are but they sound really yummy.
The love of mother and daughter is so special. Thanks for sharing.
Blessings,
Wendy
