“Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”
(Luke 2:14 ESV)
In 1965 CBS contracted Charles M. Schulz to create a Christmas special. The executives of the peacock station were horrified when Mr. Schulz presented the Christmas special. They thought that the animation film would be a flop. They even wanted Linus’ monolog ‘chopped’ from the film.
Thankfully for us, Mr. Schulz stood firm, not taking out Linus’ monolog about the true meaning of Christmas!

I love this! Linus knows! I live in Charles Schultz’ home town in Northern California, so there are statues of all the Peanut’s characters every where I go. Every time I see Linus, I remember this proclamation of the Christ in this wonderful cartoon.
I am so thankful for the gift of Christ at Christmas!
Blessings, Joan
I’m thankful that you shared this story. I love watching the Charlie Brown Christmas special but I’d never heard the story behind it. Thank God for people who stand up for something they believe in.
I love this and agree. We are not near as vocal as we should be.
Amen, I totally agree.
LOVE this video. One of my favs. I have a video up this week as well.
Gave me Holy chill bumps when I watched it. Praising God today. He is good. Hugs and Merry Christmas. Love, Lynn
Love it! I always loved the Peanuts Christmas and now even more. Thanks for sharing this, I might also share over on my blog next week. ((blessings))
I still to this day get teary eyed listening to Linus’ monologue (joined the Christmas tissue brigade!)… I LOVE this cartoon but had no idea of the history. Thank you Charles Schultz! Thank you Iris for sharing 🙂
What a wonderful and courageous testimony! I never knew about this, but I’m definitely thankful, too!
And I’m thankful for Christmas specials, in general. I love cuddling on the couch with my girls on these pitch black, bitterly cold, Canadian Prairie December evenings with the wind howling around the house, sipping hot chocolates, and watching Christmas cartoons. Ahhh, it does my heart good!
Aww, Linus’ monologue is the best part of the show! Thank heaven Mr. Schulz insisted on keeping it!
🙂 What a great story! Thanks for sharing. It made me smile when I heard this monologue the other day.
Blessings to you!

I, too, am thankful that God’s word stands forever true, regardless of who tries to get rid of it.
Didn’t make it in the list. See my post here: http://wp.me/p1EoaL-pA
