But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
(1 John 1:7-8 ESV)
Sometimes people don’t like my honesty; they look at me if I were from a different planet.
I read a very powerful devotion tonight that made me nod my head with every word (you can check is out here). That you see and hear from me is the real me. If I am hurt, I share my feelings. When I am angry people will know (no yelling, just being very firm).
Being real is something that is very important to me. I don’t like it when people are nice to my face, but stab me in the back (figuratively speaking) if they have a chance. Oh, and I so cannot stand gossip. If I hear gossip, I walk away.
I think that all who follow Jesus and are believers should be real – no masks needed. If we hurt, we should be honest about it 🙂 …So this week, I am thankful for the people in my life that are real and don’t mind sharing their hurts.
What are you thankful for this week? Please do share by leaving a link to your Thankful Thursday post below.

Thanks for this encouragement to be real. So thankful that Our Christ didn’t put up fronts or walk in fake falsity…but was who He was. Transparent. Honest. Genuine. So the traits I too appreciate…and long for. ~ jen
Amen! Genuine love and living is my motto. A fake person can be spotted a mile away and there is nothing more that will turn off a nonbeliever than a “fake” Christian. I believe that God is looking for some genuine, real followers. Not the perfect kind, but the forgiven kind that can be real. Thanks for hosting this month. Love you my friend!
I look forward to reading the devotions you linked to! Glad to be joining you for Thankful Thursday’s now!
We need to spend time with people as we strive to be authentic and overcome superficial relationships. This should be a goal in the church.
Thanks for your thought-provoking post.
I wish it was easier to be “real” in REAL LIFE! I find I’m more open on my blog than I am with my friends. I guess because on the blog, if someone comments, it’s pretty much always supportive, whereas in real life, even if someone DOESN’T really respond, you can tell by their body language how they feel about it!
But I agree, openness, honesty, and vulnerability really are key to being a true Christian community.
Thanks for this post and the reminder of being real.
I’ve been meditating on the same thing in Ez 3:18-19 this past week. It’s about Ezekiel’s call to be a watchman and point out the sinfulness of the Israelites or it would be on his head for not speaking the truth. Made me wonder about how real I am with my fellow believers. Am I bold enough to point out sin? Do I even see sin anymore or have I become desensitized to many of them?
Thanks for the encouragement. I’m praying for wisdom to be real with those around me.
i totally agree with you on that, iris.
