“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven
and do not return there but water the earth,
making it bring forth and sprout,
giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.
(Isaiah 55:10-11 ESV – emphasis mine)
I truly am thankful for His Word; it gives me the strength that I need to get through the rough days. Sometimes we find ourselves challenged by what life throws at us. Last night I was a little unsettled about some things. You see, I like to please everyone, the people I work with especially.
But honestly, not everyone will like you, no matter how hard your try. As I was reading through a devotion, Luke 6:27-29 ‘jumped’ right at me.
“But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. To one who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold your tunic either.
(Luke 6:27-29 ESV)
This has always been a very tough passage for me to follow. So, this morning I prayed for a particular person I have some ‘bumping-head’ issues with. To tell you the truth, this was the best thing I could have done. I was at ease with things at work and the day went better than expected.
You see, God knows what we need and He will guide us by His Word to take the right actions. So, I am more than thankful that we have instructions that will defuse hot topics!
What are you thankful for this week? Please share with us by leaving a link to your Thankful Thursday post below.
Thank you for stopping by today. Remember: if a situation needs defused, grab your Bible and He will guide you to take the right action.
Love and peace,
Iris

It is hard to pray for our “enemies”, but you are so right! But, when we do, our hearts change and we are better able to respond to those around us. Christ will give us the strength, the wisdom and a heart open to His leading!
Blessings, Joan
I too am thankful for His word, which provides everything we need. I’ve been away from TT for a while and am glad to be here this week. Great post, as always!
I love the idea for a Thankful Thursady and love to ponder on my blessings. I am so grateful for the scriptures in my life and the strength they give me everyday when I read them. I have favorite scriptures memorized so that I can bring them to mind when I need help. Proverbs 3:5-6 is one of those favorite scripture.
Thanks for this lovely post and blessings to you!
I love your heart for Jesus.
And I love how praying for someone you don’t necessarily get along with or particularly like somehow just makes you see that person differently! I’ve had that experience as well. It’s tough to dislike someone when you’re praying for them!! I hope your “prickly relationship” will turn around and become a blessing.
Iris, this is a wonderful post. Been there, done that. I used to work with a “Black Widow Spider” and was in constant prayer each work day so I know what you mean about butting heads. I could pray, smile at her and laugh at her and she would be so mad because I didn’t let her get my goat.
Ironically, my anti-spam word is “Mercy”. LOL
Amen and Amen again Iris! This is not always easy but I can stand and testify and say that praying for our enemies or those that are butting heads with us will give such a release and even a better understanding for those around us. So thankful for you Iris and your soft and tender heart. ((blessings))
An excellent reminder. I’ve also found this to bring me peace. As much as we want everyone to like us, they won’t. That unsettles me, but if I give it to God, I feel so much better… I have peace over situations like that.
