Berliner Innerhof

I thought that I share with you a little more about my home country. I took this picture when visiting Berlin in 2004. These are apartment buildings that are set in a square. They have a common courtyard. This particular building houses a Starbucks (yeah – they are even present in Germany). They have tables and chairs set-up in this courtyard. The buildings were restored after Germany was united in 1991…

I tell you, I really miss the architecture of Europe. We don’t have much ‘old’ stuff here in the Metro Phoenix area, since it is a fairly ‘young’ state…

Thank you for stopping by today. Have a great Saturday (suppose to hit the 90’s this weekend)…

  3. There aren’t many fond memories for me of my childhood, but I do remember however the days when my mom would get out the old slide projector and we would spend hours looking at the slides from when we lived in Germany and travelled to surrounding countries….I remember the castles the most 😉

  4. Hi Iris,

  5. Wow, those are apartments?! Much more “glamorous” than what’s here in the states, eh?

beautiful shot – I know you must miss a lot of the beauty “back home”

  6. The 90’s?????? That is too hot, too soon.
I love how the architecture in Europe is so massive and the stained glass is breathtaking. I thought the gravesites and buildings in Williamsburg were old until we went to Vienna.

Have a great weekend. Mine is up too.

  7. You’re from Germany huh? That’s neat to read this bit of info about you. My maiden name is Franks. I was told it’s German or Jewish or whatever… 🙂

  8. That’s an extremely interesting looking building! At first glance I thought it was part of the “Small World” ride at Disney because it has some of the same lines and angles!

  9. Very original! When was it built? It looks fairly new, but manages to retain an old-world flair in the arches and the trim and everything. I wish I lived somewhere that pretty!

  10. That’s a really neat building in Berlin. 🙂 Germany is wonderful. There is so much history here as compared to back in North America. My humans and I haven’t visited Berlin yet, but it’s on our list of places to see while we’re in Germany (we’re here until Summer 2009.) Great photo. 🙂

  11. That’s really a beautiful apartment building~I love the colors. I was curious about what you would have posted. See, you need to come to the East Coast for a visit. We have some really OLD stuff around here.

    Have a blessed weekend, Iris.

  12. Wow! What a unique design. I have to agree about European Architecture. I was totally amazed during a trip to Italy.

I have some Architecture photos up of a different kind!

  16. Wow, thank you for the neat picture inside Germany. I always love to see pictures from other parts of the world. When we visited Arizona a couple of years ago, we went to a town between Phoenix and Flagstaff called Jerome (I think) – it had some interesting architecture in it…anyway, I saw your in metro Phoenix so I wanted to share that. We vacationed in Flagstaff.

  17. Thanks for sharing about your home country. I’ve never been to Europe and dream of visiting the many great countries there someday.

I know what you mean, we have starbucks all over the country too.

I appreciate the visit earlier. Take care!

  18. Hi Iris-I have seen many pictures of Germany this week. I am enjoying seeing them as my husband went to to Germany in 2001 to pick up his BMW (this was before God saw fit to humble us). He went with a friend of his and I stayed home with the baby. The guys didn’t do much in the way of travel planning and they didn’t have a tourist guide. They just drove around Munich. My husband said there was nothing there just big boxy buildings. He thought everything must have been destroyed during WWII because there just wasn’t anything old. I had to tell him about all of these pictures that I am seeing today. Now he says well I guess we can go there again and see if we can find something 🙂

  19. Wonderful photo. It’s great to get to see architecture styles from all around the world. What a good theme we have this week.

My first time post is up on my blog.

  20. That is a beautiful apartment building! I can well imagine that you miss the architecture of Europe. European influence in architecture can be found in the states, though. In fact, I posted a picture of the Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine that illustrates the Spanish influence in Florida. Have a great weekend, Iris!

  21. Now that is a good looking building. It even looks as if you could open a window which is better than these sealed up buildings they make now. (I may be fed up with the snow and 20 below temps here but I sure am glad it isn’t 90!!)

  22. Wow that is really cool. My family originates back to Germany – like my 4th great grandfather: Froschen Pfalz, Bayern, Germany is what I have on the genealogy books!
I agree with you, America is a young country in comparison – although there a few cool architectural sites in Washington DC!
    Blessings
