Not only can I call Darlene a friend; she is also an excellent writer–and funny. “The Mom Complex–Discover the woman God designed you to be” is a book every woman with children should read…let me rephrase that: every woman should read!
Darlene wrote this book in a devotional style–which I greatly enjoyed. She shares her childhood memories; her life with husband Michael and 4 children–Brendan, Maddy, Nathaniel and Graham. I guess if you are raising 4 children, life is never dull. Darlene’s children are all different; unique in their character–one thing shines through on all of them. They have a solid foundation–Jesus Christ. Darlene and Michael are doing such a wonderful job raising Godly children…I believe that little Graham will be one day preaching the Word. But then again, I can see that all four of their children might be involved in ministry.
My favorite part of the book? Darlene offers Scripture in every chapter and a time to reflect on our life in Christ. I love books that apply Scripture to everyday life situations. Throughout the book, Darlene’s writing has helped me to come up with reflections on my own–here at Sting My Heart and Laced with Grace. I am certain that this book will be food for thought for many years to come. Let me share a little nugget from Darlene’s book to wet your appetite:
“We are jostled to and fro when we fight to survive against the current of the world that so easily drags us down. Struggling to find freedom, we desperately clutch to the dome of salvation, but what is that dome that we’re all fighting to hold? It’s only when we firmly plant our fee on a solid rock that we can have confidence on that which we stand. The solid rock on which I stand is salvation through Jesus Christ.”
If you are interested to get your own autographed copy you can purchase it through CWO at http://www.christianwomenonline.net/momcomplex.html. All I can say is–this book will bless you. I have to agree with Darlene: “God’s plan for our life is different than ours”…
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.” ~ Isaiah 55:8-9 (ESV)
Just a reminder: You can find me tomorrow (Monday) at Laced with Grace…
Hi Iris-
I am adding Darlene’s book to my reading list.
Jennifer
I am seconding everything Iris has said, I am halfway through Darlene’s book. Reading it is like sitting down with a warm cup of coffee, and know you are going to learn something from someone who struggles just like you do.
Checked this book out in our regular bookstore unfortunately they did not have it. Will try dropping by a Christian Bookstore anytime this week.
Happy Monday!
