You wonder what I am talking about? What do you consider the greatest book in history? For me ~ it is the Bible. How can a book with such a long history have survived? Only by the hand of God. You can find a lot about the Bible online. The meaning, its history. It is amazing what you can find on the Internet ~ all the information in the world with a couple of keystrokes (I am still amazed about that)…

Many people think the Bible is just another book. I don’t think it is. How many times have people tried to ‘wipe out’ the Bible? Even to this day, entire countries try to destroy the Word of God. Take China for example. It is in most places illegal to possess a Bible. Bibles are shipped in secret. They are smuggled in by Christians. People in China actually die to have this ‘ordinary’ book in their possession. But why would they die for just an ‘ordinary’ book? Well, it is not! It is God’s guidance in this life and He leads us through it to Eternal Life.

You say how I can believe that the Bible leads to Eternal Life?! Well, because I believe, by the power of the Holy Spirit, that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God. And if I believe that, than I believe everything that is written in the Bible. It is the breath of God:

“But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” ~ 2 Timothy 3:14-17 (NIV)

How often to you read your Bible? Have you ever opened the Bible? Do you believe that the Bible is Truth? Before you answer, think about how an ‘ordinary’ book can survive thousands of years…If you have any questions regarding the Bible, but don’t want to leave a comment, please email me and I will try to answer your questions.

“To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” ~ John 8:31-33 (NIV)

  1. isn’t it wild to really think that through? i can’t think of a single book that has been so controversial through the ages of time – how can a simple “book” be so powerful to have rulers hate it, citizens despise it, “religious leaders” burn it, yet it not only survive the test of time but it is the #1 book! that speaks volumes to me…there’s something more in that book than mere words!

  2. Another great post! It it definitely a “God thing” that it is the only book that has lasted so long. God Bless.
BTW-My template was so messed up I went back and got another. What do you think?

  3. I became a Christian 2 and 1/2 years ago. 6 months later I decided to read the bible from beginning to end. I decided not to do the read the bible in a year thing because I knew I would get behind and get discouraged and end up stopping. So I just tried my best to do reading and praying in the morning before work. Some weeks I manage every day, some weeks once if I’m lucky. But I just finished the book of Mark and will start Luke tomorrow morning!

  4. To Beckie: Thank you :). I will check out your template tonight from home…

To Heaven 11: Oh – this is wonderful that you have made it to Luke already :). You know I have tried the One-Year Bible reading in different settings, but it just doesn’t work for me. I like my worn Bible and rather read randomly 🙂

  5. Wendy sent me here (the game).

I do in fact believe in the bible and I believe that it is not only accurate but should apply to our lives today.

I continue to read the bible and try to make my life comply with what God wants.

    ;0)

  6. You mentioned the Bible surviving over thousands of years…

When I spent a little time learning the history of the Bible and what it went through to get to us, in English, throughout these thousands of years, it blew my mind! Only God could have made that happen. Only God.

  7. I’d love to learn some more online tools for digging deeper into scripture. I sometimes wish I’d gone to seminary when I was younger — but I know you can learn so much from home.

Still, I feel like I’ve spent my life just skimming the surface. I’d love to be able to REALLY know what the Hebrew and Greek writers were thinking. We’re so limited by English. Do you usually read the Bible in English or German? I just now thought of that — I bet you have more insight since you can read it in two languages.

  9. The older I get, the more I treasure the Word of God. No other book can hold a candle. THanks for posting this! And thanks for the sweet get-well greeting. I’m still achy with flu but taking advantage of a teensy bit of energy before I go crashing again…
