Thankful Thursday ~ God’s Shelter

“I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples;
I will sing praises to you among the nations.”
~ Psalm 57:9 (ESV)

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
~ 2 Corinthians 12:9 (ESV)

Wow, were in the world did the month of June go? Please remember that in the month of July, my friend Lynn at “Spiritually Unequal Marriage” is hosting Thankful Thursday; in August my friend Laurie will be hosting the weekly meme at “Women Taking a Stand“.

I chose the title “God’s Shelter” because I am currently reading Sheila Walsh‘s book “God’s Shelter for your Storm“.

I often say to friends in real life and on the internet: I do not know where I would be without my faith in Jesus Christ. Sheila’s book really emphasizes that we as humans and believers are not perfect, but we have Someone who makes us perfect in God’s eyes; Jesus Christ.

Today I read a snippet of the short book that really hit home. Sheila is talking about Peter’s denial of Jesus and the homecoming of the prodigal son. Both turned their backs on God, but God was waiting for them to return. Sheila writes:

“If you have taken your father’s inheritance, broken his heart, spent all you had, and ended up feeding pigs, where do you go? Peter would tell you and the prodigal would say, ‘Turn your heart toward home, toward God. Cling to His promise that He’s got you covered with His lavish, unmerited grace. His power is made perfect in your weakness. Just recognize your need for the Shelter when you stand exposed and vulnerable.'” ~ Sheila Walsh “God’s Shelter for your Storm (page 106)”

Isn’t that powerful?!? I tell you, my sweet friends, I have read/heard the story of the prodigal son and Peter’s denial so many times, but every time I read/hear it, it gives me goose-bumps. His grace is just amazing; and I am so thankful for it. No matter how weak I am, He will cover me with His amazing grace.

What are you thankful for my dear friends? Please leave your link below to your Thankful Thursday post or leave me a comment.

Thank you for stopping in today; remember: His grace is amazing, give Him thanks and do not take it for granted.

People of the Book – Extreme Devotion Series

Interview with Kathi Macias author of the Extreme Devotion Series:

People of the Book is the fourth and final book in your Extreme Devotion series. Each book is set in a different country, with the theme of first devotion and commitment to Christ above all else running through all four. How is People of the Book different, and who/what inspired you to write this book?

People of the Book was the most difficult of the four Extreme Devotion series books to write, but it is also the strongest when it comes to a call to personal commitment to Christ and to the fulfillment of the Great Commission. With each of the books, I began drafting the manuscripts through Internet research, since I had never lived in any of the four countries and had only visited one of them. After the original draft, I worked with someone who either currently lived in the country or who had recently spent many years there. People of the Book was the toughest because the Saudi women I connected with via the Internet were understandably apprehensive about associating with me. Most, in fact, were terrified to do so. I was therefore quite pleased to meet a young woman named Dolly Dahdal here in the States who, until just a few years ago, had spent the majority of her life in Saudi Arabia and understood perfectly why I had chosen to write this book. We shared a passion to help expose the fallacy of “honor killings,” a horrific crime perpetrated primarily against women and girls who in some way bring “dishonor” on their Muslim families, and Dolly was a major contributor to the authenticity of this book.

Can you give us a brief synopsis of this story?

Eighteen-year-old Farah, who lives in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with her family, wants nothing more than to develop a deeper, more meaningful devotion to her Muslim faith. She sees the month of Ramadan as her chance to draw nearer to Allah, and she pursues that goal throughout the holiday. All goes well until the prophet Isa—Jesus—appears to her in a dream and calls her to Himself. At the same time, her only brother, Kareem, who has never liked Farah, actively seeks an opportunity to expose her for the sham he believes she is.

Meanwhile, Farah’s seventeen-year-old cousin, Nura, has begun to frequent an online chat room where former Muslims gather to discuss their new faith, based on their belief that Isa is much more than a Muslim prophet—He is actually the Son of God. While there, Nura becomes acquainted with an American girl of Muslim ancestry—now a devout Christian named Sara—and a friendship quickly develops. However, Sara has problems of her own due to her fifteen-year-old brother Emir’s involvement with a gang.

The lives of Farah, Nura, and Sara ultimately dovetail until each finds herself at a place where her faith is put to the test. Will they remain faithful to the end? Will God protect and keep them safe in the midst of persecution and treachery? Or will they be required to pay the ultimate price for their faith?

Kathi, how did you get into writing? Has it always been your passion, or is it something you came to later in life?

I’ve always wanted to write, for as long as I can remember. I was an avid reader even before I started kindergarten. I wrote a short story in third grade that the teacher liked so much she showed it to the principal, and they decided to turn it into a play for the entire PTA. I was hooked! One day when I was about 13, I was walking home from school with my then boyfriend (now husband), Al, and I told him I’d be a writer some day. He often reminds me how blessed I am to have been able to do what I dreamed of all my life.

I understand you’re running a special contest that has to do with this book. Can you tell us about it?

Not only are there several opportunities to win a copy of the book on various blog sites included in this tour, but I’m giving away the entire four-book series at the end of the tour to someone who leaves a comment on one of the blogs, so be sure to check them all out and leave comments on each one!

In addition to writing, you are a popular speaker at women’s event, writers’ conferences, and various venues around the country. How can people find out more about you, your writing and speaking, sign up for your weekly devotional newsletter (in English or Spanish), and/or just view your many book videos, etc.?

They can find me at one of my websites (Kathi Macias and Titus2 Women) or on my Easy Writer blog. There is a “contact” button on my Kathi Macias website if they’d like to send me a message. I always respond to all my emails!

I was given a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for posting the author’s interview on my blog. This blog tour is managed by Christian Speaker Services.

‘Red Ink’ by Kathi Macias

As I had mentioned on Thursday, I was reading “Red Ink” by Kathy Macias. This was the first book I ever read by Kathi; I know it will not be the last. I will have to check out the rest of her books, and most certainly her “Extreme Devotion Series”.

The book “Red Ink” captured me from the first page to the last. I could not turn the pages fast enough 😆 .

Christians in China always have captured my interest, because they are truly devoted to their faith. I think that we often take for granted that we are able to worship freely in this country (or my home country for that fact). After turning the last page of Kathi’s book “Red Ink”, I wondered once again: “Will I stand faithfully if I were to be persecuted for my beliefs?”. I pray I do!

One other thing I was reminded of while reading the book: pray for the ones God puts on your heart. No matter if it is someone from your immediate family, your friends, or someone you have never met. God has His reasons why He puts names or nations on your heart to pray for. May I not disregard His prompting for prayers.

My friend Lori has a more comprehensive review on Kathi’s book. You can also win a copy by leaving a comment on Lori’s review blog.

I hope that you will have the chance to read “Red Ink”. The book once again reminded me to not take my freedom for granted.

Thank you for stopping by today. Have a blessed Sunday!

Thankful Thurday ~ Divine Appointments

Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever!
~ Psalm 107:1 (ESV)

Do you believe in divine appointments? Well, I do. You see what happened last week could only be something God had planned…

Although I do have my name with a couple of publishing houses, I usually do not request any books for review. Only on occasion will I request a book (actually only when friends release a new book/study). I love to read, but due to my limited available free time, it takes a while for me to finish to book. However, last week I had a package in my mailbox that came from a publisher…I was surprised, because I didn’t request any books to read/review.

When I saw the title “The Edge of the Divine”, I knew I had to read it. Don’t ask me why, I just knew…I read the book in 2 days flat; I just couldn’t put it down. Want to know why I believe that God had His hands in this?

Let me tell you: I have a huge issue with self-esteem (actually no self-esteem). Sandi Patty shared some wise words in her book “The Edge of the Divine” (full review to follow later this month). Couple of things I wanted to share with you today: “Find something that you really like about yourself” and “…I know I’m worth it ’cause God don’t make no junk!”…Do you know how powerful those statements were to me? Just divine!!!!!

Thank You Lord for having Your hand in this. You knew I needed to read the book. My heart has been so heavy lately…Thank You from the bottom of my heart!!!!!

What are you thankful for this week? Please share by leaving the link to your TT-Post below.

Thank you for stopping by today…Remember: God don’t make no junk – you are His.
