Here I Come…

Yes, it is true. Stacy accepted my application to become one of her exclusive reviewers for new Christian book releases with Mind & Media. I am so excited about it…
My first review will be a book by Polly D. Boyette called “Life is a Buffet“. I think this is a perfect match for me. Here is a little description of the book from Polly’s homepage:

Life is a Buffet is a collection of hilarious short stories experienced by author, Polly Boyette. These funny stories remind us how to laugh at ourselves, even at our most embarrassing and humiliating times. Polly teaches us that life truly is a buffet, offering a wide variety of choices that we are faced with everyday. Choosing to add laughter to our appetite actually makes living and choosing easier along he way. Polly also pairs a scriptural interpretation with each story in order to teach simple Biblical principals along with the laughter. Each story makes us laugh out loud, while, at the same time, giving us food for thought. Life is filled with busy tasks which we allow to clutter up our minds, leaving no room for the desserts that God intends for us to enjoy. Laughter is an essential key in everyday living. Unfortunately, as we grow older and more mature, we find less time to take pleasure in the lighter side of our lives. With Life is a Buffet, Polly Boyette reminds us that it’s okay to skip over the main courses and head straight for the desserts. So go ahead and laugh.

Doesn’t this sound great? I enjoy laughing (who doesn’t), especially about the silly stuff I sometimes do or say…I can not wait to get my hands on this book…
A special thanks goes to Heather at Mom 2 Mom Connection, who actually had a post about becoming a reviewer. By the way – Heather has become one of my daily reads in this huge blogsphere. If you have time, check our her blog. She might become one of your daily reads as well.

Back Into His Word…

Bible StudyI have missed Bible study for such a long time, that I am really yearning to dip back into the pool of His Word with my faithful study partner, Carlene. It is just horrible how I have neglected the study of His Word. I have been reading ‘only’ my daily devotions over the past 8 months, and sometimes I don’t think that is enough…
What a great title my friend picked to get back into the habit of really studying the Word. It is called “Living in Jesus“…I think us so called ‘long-time’ believers often forget what He has done for us at the cross. You know what passage just came to mind as I am writing this:

“I am the true wine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.”
John 15:1-4(NIV)

Yikes – I don’t want to shrivel up and be cut off…So, what do you do in order to remain in Him? Do you read His Word or do you get involved in Bible study? Please do share with me…
On a little side note: Several weeks ago I posted about the different Bible translations. As you might remember, Ben mentioned that the NIV is a ‘Not Inspired Version’. So, I went back to my notes from my OT professor. He said: “Use more than one translation when you STUDY His Word (now I remember why I bought the parallel Bible several years ago), so you can compare Bible passages. For your own personal devotion, use the Bible version that you are most comfortable with”. Now, after some years, I finally understand my OT professor…:)In His grip,

“The Face of God” by Bill Myers

One of my favorite books over the last couple of years, is Bill Myers’ book The Face of God. Here is just the summary of it, but believe me, this is one of the most compelling books I have ever read:

Resigning his pastorate, widower Daniel Lawson seeks to regain his Christian fervor. Stumbling upon one of the mysterious stones used by ancient Judaism’s high priest, he’s drawn into a dangerous adventure. Together with an atheistic archaeologist, a devout Muslim girl, and his estranged son, Daniel embarks upon a worldwide quest to find the other stones.

The best part of this book: Bill Myers makes it clear that there is only one way to heaven – through Jesus – “The Way, the Truth & the Life”…I think that this book ranks as my all time favorite fiction books.
It is so hard to find great fiction books (I do like Christian ones the best – wonder why that is – lol). Let me know if you have come across a good fiction book lately…

Love & Respect

BookThe Love & Respect book by Dr. Eggerichs is very helpful to understand the different needs of men & women in a marital relationship. Yes, it is written by a Christian man, but it could be also very helpful to non-believers. Give it a try. It will turn your good marriage into a great marriage, because you will understand more things about your partner than a life-time being married. Gentlemen, you always say that you don’t understand your wife, her mood swings ect.
Ladies, this book will give you a glimpse of things you never thought about; the things that just drive our men up the wall. I told my sweetheart about the book. I told him that if I behaved in a way some women do, hey, I would divorce myself. In the age of a high divorce rates, I believe from the bottom of my heart, that we should put every effort into understanding our spouses a little better, and make our marriages stronger.
Oh, one thing gentlemen, tell you wife once in awhile that we are beautiful to you – we love to hear it, especially coming from the mouth of our sweethearts. It will be worth it – believe me…
