Thankful Thursday ~ Growing Through His Word

“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven
and do not return there but water the earth,
making it bring forth and sprout,
giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.
(Isaiah 55:10-11 ESV)

I have to admit, I do not use any reading plans. I have tried, tried, and tried again to stick to a yearly reading plan, but I have failed every time. I seem to loose steam by the time I get to the Old Testament book of Leviticus. However, I still am reading His Word. Sometimes I read an entire book, and find so many new nuggets that boggle my mind. Not so much that I do not understand, but that I find out something about God’s plan in the Old Testament that I had overlooked before.

Take the book of Daniel as an example. I read the book this past Summer again, and was I in for a ride. Although I have studied Daniel before, this time it really hit me that Darius and Nebuchadnezzar believed in the One True and Living God. How could I have missed this before. It is plain and simple written in Daniel 4 and 6.

Today I am thankful that the Protestant Reformation movement of the 16th century enabled the people to read and understand the Bible in their native tongue. Today we not only get the Bible in our native tongue, but even different translations that help us understand His Word better and grow.

What are you thankful for this week? Please do share with us by leaving a link to your Thankful Thursday post below. Please remember that in the month of November, my friend Laurie will host TT at “Women Taking A Stand“.

Thank you for stopping by today. Remember: the Bible is available for you in different forms, read it and let God help you grow through it.

Love & peace,
Iris

Thankful Thursday ~ Confidence

Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:14-16 ESV)

Are you a confident person? It really has taken me years to become a confident woman; and there are still days where I do not feel confident at all.

One thing that has helped me grow over the years is who I am in Christ. When I have days that I don’t greet confidentially, I will feel better once I spent some time with God in the morning. No matter which devotion I turn to, I know that His World will give me the confidence I need to step out in the day.

October 3rd, 2013, will be a day that will be very significant to me. Not only is October 3rd a German holiday, but 2013 will mark the day that I will step out of my comfort zone and embrace new challenges. My little, tiny company “Iris Nelson Portraits LLC” will get published. I will rush to Barnes & Noble in the morning to pick up the Arizona Business Gazette to see my company name in ‘print’ other than my blog or website 🙂 …

This past Monday, my friend Lori posted a fabulous quote on Facebook that I really like and that is so fitting for my current situation:

“It’s impossible” said pride. “It’s risky” said experience. “It’s pointless” said reason. “Give it a try” whispered the heart”…

And I will add to that:

“Jesus looked at them and said, “With man it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God.”
(Mark 10:27 ESV)

So, this week I am thankful for the confidence I can find in God’s Word. What are you thankful for this week? Please do share with us by leaving a link to your Thankful Thursday post below.

Thank you for stopping by. Remember: with God all things are possible…Let Him help you build your confidence.

Bad Blogger – Sam I am…

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” ~ Colossians 3:16 (ESV)

I apologize for the inconvenience I have caused Bloggers in regards of Thankful Thursday. It was brought to my attention that the rotation has caused some confusion of all participants.

I hope to clear up the confusion to post a schedule for who is hosting Thankful Thursdays for the remaining of 2009 (you can also now find it in my sidebar):

Lynn at Spiritual Unequal Marriage – May, July and October 2009
Laurie at Women Taking a Stand – June, September, and December 2009
Iris at Grace Alone – August, and November 2009

Again, I apologize for all the confusion over the last months…BTW – I hope to share some exciting news with you all soon 🙂

Thank you for stopping by today — be blessed today and always…

Thankful Thursday ~ Trust

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.”
~ Proverbs 3:5 (ESV)

Trust no one! Well, except the Lord and the ones that are very close to you or know you for a little while.

I really wavered between ‘Trust’ and ‘Gift’ for Thankful Thursday this week, but ‘Trust’ ‘won’…Again this week I was reminded that we really can trust only a handful people this side of heaven. There are a lot of mean-spirited people in this world. But I digress, so here is my thankful list for this week…

  • I am thankful that I can trust the Lord with everything in my life. I can pour out my heart to Him without Him sharing it with anyone. I can trust that He will give me comfort and peace in times of distress…
  • I am thankful that I can share my heart and concerns with my beloved. Even when I loose total focus on a matter, he is there to comfort me. He helps me to see reason (thank you Lord for placing this particual treasure in my life)…
  • I am thankful that I can trust a handful of friends with whom I can share my hurts and feelings…no matter what – they do not judge…
  • I am thankful that I can trust the Lord to give me strength for days where I don’t seem to have any strength left to ‘swim up-stream’…
  • I am thankful that I can trust that everything will work out for the good and that all mean people will be exposed in due time…
  • Last but not least, I am thankful that I can trust my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ to be my protection until eternity…

Before I let you go, I want to say publicly ‘thank you’ Mama Bear and Jenileigh for the wonderful gifts you have sent me. Yeah – can you believe that I won two drawings in the month of June/July 😛 . I hope to share a digital LO with you soon that feature the wonderful prizes.

So, what are you thankful for this week? If you have posted your own Thankful Thursday post, please link it below.

Thank you for stopping by today…and remember: even when you think there is nothing to be thankful for, just step back, take a deep breath — the Lord is always worthy of our thanks – no matter what 😉
