Week 5 Shoot & Edit SOOC Heart

I started following Jill’s photo-blog “Forever n Ever n Always Photography”. I wish I would have followed her blog earlier (like 3 years ago); she has some really neat tutorials posted (could have used the “Aperture Tutorial” when I started my photography πŸ˜‰ .

This week I am joining Jill in the SOOC (straight out of camera) challenge; the theme this week is “Hearts”. So here is what I came up with (first my settings):

The only thing I did with the photo is convert from RAW to JPG; reduced the size to 2400px x 3600px (8 x 12). You can see the larger size on my Flickr page:

Check our Jill’s post to see other photographer’s photographs for this challenge.

Thanks for stopping by – until next time with a new photography challenge πŸ™‚

Craft & Vision ~ Winter in the Canadian Rockies

Winter in the Canadian Rockies by Darwin Wiggett is the newest ebook to the Craft & Vision library and the latest in the Print & Process series. Darwin captures the spirit of Canada’s most striking mountain range in this monograph of breath-taking landscapes. Photographers of all levels, and geographic persuasion, will find inspiration and insight in this beautiful body of work, and the accompanying discussions, that spans nearly 3 decades.

Darwin discusses in detail the joys and difficulties of working in the cold to capture the abstract and artistic beauty of this magical place. What could be better during these winter months than a great photographer and teacher like Darwin sharing his warm fondness for the coolness of winter?

Winter in the Canadian Rockies – Print & Process is available now as a downloadable PDF for just $5USD.

Special Offer on PDFs
For the first five days only, if you use the promotional code ROCKIES4 when you checkout, you can have the PDF version of Winter in the Canadian Rockies for only $4 OR use the code ROCKIES20 to get 20% off when you buy 5 or more PDF ebooks from the Craft & Vision collection. These codes expire at 11:59pm PST January 22nd, 2011.

My personal note on this new ebook: Love it!!! Although we do not have extreme winter conditions in Arizona, I am taken notes on how successful professional photographers archive beautiful images. Darwin’s images are stunning for one thing. I also like how he shared his process on each image published in this ebook.

I also enjoyed Darwin’s honesty: in some cases it took him years to photograph a particular area with a stunning outcome. This gives me peace to know that even successful photographers still refine their process.

I hope you have a chance to download your own copy and read through the PDF, refining your own photography.

Thanks for stopping by today. Remember: God created beauty around us – capture it.

Thankful Thursday ~ Busyness

Save us, O Lord our God,
and gather us from among the nations,
that we may give thanks to your holy name
and glory in your praise.
~ Psalm 106:47 (ESV)

Wow, December; where did this year go? Do you realize that in 24 days we will be celebrating the birth of our Savior? I love Christmas!

When you saw the title for this week’s post, you may have thought that I lost it or fellow of my rocker. I didn’t; I promise. You see in the month of November I was really busy with portrait photography. I made my clients very happy with the portraits I took of their children/family.

However, when I get very busy, I also get very flustered/disorganized. But not this time. Sure, I have had long nights (which are not yet over), but God has increased my clientele by 80% compared to last year. Wow, stunning, don’t you agree? I could not have it done with the prayers and support from my dear and trusted friends Lori, Lynn, Debbie, Connie, and Erin (thank you ladies for your cheers and prayers). Oh and of course the support of my beloved!

I am also thankful that God has given me the confidence not to give up after the first year. It is said that most photographers give up within the first year. You have to understand, I am not an A-Type person, so drumming up business does not come natural. So I know, it was God’s doing…Thank you Lord! I am also thankful for my former clients recommending my services πŸ˜‰ .

What are you thankful for this week? Please do share with us by leaving your link to your Thankful Thursday post below.

Thank you for stopping by today. Remember: busyness does not mean we have to be flustered, but gives us an opportunity to show our faith in God and prayers.
