Reading the title of my post, you probably think I lost my mind. Don’t make a judgement until you finish reading my post ~ :win:.
As I have told you before, I love my husband very much. He is an incredible guy. He does anything for me if I ask him. He would even hang the moon in a different spot if I would ask him (but I won’t ~)
This being said I have to tell you the story why laundry + pride = disaster. You see, I don’t like to iron. Actually, I will use a very harsh word here, I loathe ironing. To tell you the truth, I would rather cook a six course meal for twenty people, before I set up the ironing board. BTW – did you read Carol’s 13 post this week? ~ Very funny.
So after a very long Wednesday, including work, shopping (yes, I shop every day for groceries), cooking, run a load through the machine, blogging, cleaning the dishes, the thought of ironing my sweetheart a work-shirt never crossed my mind. But my Sweetheart needed one for the next day. Before I cleaned the dishes I mentioned that my back was hurting (honestly ~ it was). Well, my Sweetheart didn’t even wanted to bother asking if I could iron him a shirt for the next day. He got the ironing board, grabbed several shirts and the iron. My mouth just dropped open and I was offended. Can you believe it?
You see, sometimes my old sinful self breaks thru. ~ PRIDE!!!! As I mentioned before, I love him, and want to be the best wife a man can have. And instead of being thankful for his help, I felt insulted!!!! O, I can be such a handful sometimes (that is nicely put). I really put my foot in my mouth, saying things that were just wrong. It was pitiful to say the least! What the heck got into me? One word: Pride! Yikes!!!
Well, I sent him an email when I got to work the next morning, apologizing. And on my way home, I picked him up on of these
I just hope that I have learned from this incident for the future, and put my pride aside next time my Sweetheart lends me a hand with household chores. Needless to say, tonight when I get home, the rest of his shirts will be ironed…

  1. hehehe…I think my home is as anto ironing as you can get. I haven’t ironed anything in YEARS, and thankfully don’t need to…I could see how pride could rear its ugly head in this case though. I probably would have felt…RELIEF! lol!!!

  2. Such a good story. Human nature is so funny that way. There’s something that needs doing and even though we hate doing it and don’t feel up to doing it and wish someone else would do it, we still see it as our job and get upset if someone does try to do it.

  3. I’m laughing so hard. I also hate ironing. When the Marine Corps went to no iron cammies I swear I danced for joy. No more ironing!! Yay! I feel the same way you did when Shawn winds up doing the dishes. Major guilt time. But buying your husband Lego!! That’s so wonderful! Next time Shawn does something I should have I’m going to do just that. (He’s a real Lego maniac. Even auditioned for the Master Builder position two years ago.)

Came to your site through Mom 2 Mom Connection, in case you were wondering. 🙂

  4. Hello, this is my first time to leave a comment here.

Haha, things look similar even overseas. Neither I or my husband like ironing. Since he bought shpe-memory shirts, that is, those hardly getting wrinkled, we haven’t had quarrels over ironing. 🙂
(By the way I read your comment on Mom 2 Mom connection. We produce cheese in Japan, too.)

  5. I don’t exactly enjoy ironing either, so I guess I can pretty much relate. Thank God for our ironing / wash woman who comes in twice a week to do the “dirty” work, hehe. I tried ironing for my hubby several times, but he has this certain peculiar way of how he wants his shirts to look when pressed…and I just don’t seem to get it. So to heck with it, let the ironing lady figure it out. I’d rather have peace and harmony, hehe 😛

  6. Hey Iris,

Girl you better let that man iron if he wants to iron! What were you thinking? LOL.

Seriously though, thanks for sharing, we get tripped up by the littlest things sometimes.

    Love ya,

  7. Maybe your hubby didn’t mean to offend you when he ironed his shirts. He heard you complaining about the pain in your back so he didn’t ask you if you could iron his shirts because he knew you were not feeling well. Anyway, at least you have apologized to him. Sometimes when we are exhausted our minds are too and we say or feel things that aren’t right. A marriage may be made in heaven but the maintenance must be done on earth.

  8. lol Human nature sucks sometimes…Ok most of the time …I have so been teher done that with Guppy myself ..I to get mouthy when that happens. It is a good thing God is so full of mercy and grace and a also a good thing our hubbies are patient and love us 🙂

  9. As I mentioned before – I have the greatest commenters on my blog. I really thought that I am the only one who feels like that.
I get sometimes so angry with myself when I act like a total ‘dah-head’…

  10. (HUGS) I have done the very same thing!!! I am so ashamed of myself when I do that.

BTW, I loathe ironing also!! It’s a wretched chore – give me a toilet to scrub any day!

  11. Can I even find my iron? I admit, I feel prickly when my husband does a load of laundry for himself instead of asking me to do an extra load on a non-laundry day.

I need to learn to value what he does to try to lighten my load…
