Thankful Thursday ~ Precious Words

“This is my comfort in my affliction,
that your promise gives me life.” ~ Psalm 119:50 (ESV)

God’s Word to me is the best comfort there is – don’t you agree? Yesterday morning I read Lori’s interview with Rebecca St. James at CWO’s web-site. One particular phrase hit me right between the eyes: “I want to thrive, not just survive”. But how I can thrive? Only by staying close to His Word…So this year, from time-to-time, I would like to share passages from His precious Word with you during our Thankful Thursday gatherings.

One Bible I carry with me at all times is my ‘precious’ all worn out — pages falling out — taped back together — highlighted in different colors — New Living Translation. Although we are using the ESV at church (which I also use it for my studies), the NLT was the best for me to make the transition from German to English. I know – it is only a thought-for-thought translation…I think it is a great ‘entry level’ translation to His Word…IMHO 🙂 . I hope you don’t mind that I share passages from ‘my’ NLT today.

I am thankful for His precious Word…

  • He has removed our sins as far from us
as the east is from the west. ~ Psalm 103:12
  • “You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.” ~ Matthew 17:20
  • When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. ~ Mark 4:39
  • Then Jesus called to the crowd to come and hear. “All of you listen,” he said, “and try to understand. It’s not what goes into your body that defiles you; you are defiled by what comes from your heart.” ~ Mark 7:14-15
  • And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul’s message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth. As a result, many Jews believed, as did many of the prominent Greek women and men. ~ Acts 17:11-12

Thankful Thursday ~ Christmas Past

Before I share my Christmas Thankful post with you, I would like to ask you to reflect on this past year for next weeks Thankful Thursday. What or who had the most impact on you in 2008? I would love to read your thoughts on 2008 and what it has brought/meant to you…

“And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”
~ Luke 2:13-14 (ESV)

Oh, I so love Christmas. How about you? I had asked you last week if you are willing to go down memory lane for this week’s Thankful Thursday post. Do you have some precious memories of Christmas past from your childhood? If not, that is okay…

christmas-time_1

I like to remember my childhood Christmases. They were filled with traditions, family time and remembering the true meaning of Christmas. Let me share a little about my childhood Christmases…

The weeks leading up to Christmas were filled with Sunday night gatherings around the Advent wreath. My dad would play his little home organ, my sister would play the guitar, and my mom’s voice would fill the air with her wonderful voice. My favorite song her singing was ‘Holy Night’.

On Christmas Eve morning my dad would ‘hunt down’ the best live Christmas tree his money could by. They were not majestic trees, but they always smelled good – just like a forest 🙂 . My favorite part of the tree were the wax-candles and the angel. When we were older, my sister and I took turns to place the angel on top – what a special treat 🙂

After we decorated the tree, we all took a little afternoon nap (most of the time my sister and I didn’t sleep because of the excitement building 😆 ). The supper on Christmas Eve was preceded by the Children’s Christmas service at 6pm.

Upon our return from church, we had a little supper that consisted of potato salad and Wiener Wuerstchen. My mom changed that over the years to fondue. I think as we got older, we rather had the family gathering than the gift giving. Yes, we opened our gifts on Christmas Eve. We didn’t hear a “HoHoHo”, but the soft sounding of a silver bell. My mom told us that the silver bell announced the arrival of the Christ child…

Yes, the memories of my childhood Christmases still warm my heart to this day. I am thankful that my parents taught us that Christmas is about Christ. The greatest gift ever known to mankind.

Thank you for stopping by today. Remember: Christmas is not only once a year, but 365 days a year if you have received His freely given gift – the Christ Child.

Merry Christmas – Glory to God in the Highest…

Back on Track – I Hope…

I hope you all had a blessed Thanksgiving. I will share my Thanksgiving with you all on Thankful Thursday — hope to see you then…

Christmas is 25 days away — I think someone stole the months of October and November. For some reason, they are just a blur to me. I think I need professional help in organizing my days. Any suggestions my beloved readers?

Okay, so I work full-time, but what in the world happens to the rest of my days? I have tried a schedule, but it didn’t work. I cut out any ‘extra’ stuff in my life…well, I guess it was not enough cutting out…

I do hope that I get back on track with my blogging, because I like to read you encouraging posts on your blogs and comments here at Grace Alone.

One of my primary goals of blogging has always been to share His Word with the world…to point to the cross wherever I can; even in different kind of settings. In my latest digital LO’s I have combined my passion of photography, with my passion for His Word. I am working on a Faith Brag Book that I hopefully will be able to print (professionally) next year. Not sure if I will be able to sell it as a book (high cost) but we will see…

Over the next months (until completion), I would like to share the pages I am creating here at my personal blog. So, here is my very first page of my Faith Brag Book (A for Abide) based on John 15:4 of the ESV Bible version (hope you like it):

Thank you for stopping by today. Be blessed today and always…

The 11th Hour

“And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing. And he said to them, ‘Why do you stand here idle all day?’ They said to him, ‘Because no one has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You go into the vineyard too.’” ~ Matthew 20:6-7

Some of us are ‘life-long’ Christians; some of us wander off to see what else is out there (people like me). Others don’t trust in the Lord for salvation until the 11th hour…

You can read the rest of my thoughts over at…

Blessings on your day and as always…
