“I will give to the Lord the thanks due to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the Lord, the Most High.” ~ Psalm 7:17 (ESV)
You might ask why I am thankful for the 5 senses — sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell. Well, I don’t know either — it ‘popped’ into my head this morning as I was driving to work 😀 …You know, we (I) take our senses for granted – not all people are blessed to have all 5 of them. I thought it would be a good idea to share my grateful heart that I still have them..
- Thank You, Lord for the sense of sight. I am able to read my Bible, encouraging books, read traffic signs, see my family and friends smile, see the beauty You have created around us…
- Thank You, Lord for the sense of hearing. I am able to listen to comforting words from pastors, teachers, music that gets me though the day. I am able to hear the words “I love you” said by my beloved, our son, or even friends…
- Thank You, Lord for the sense of touch…I can embrace the face of my beloved, give a hug to a friend, and one day soon touch the hem of Your garment…
- Thank You, Lord for the sense of taste…I can enjoy all the yummy foods, like pasta salad, chicken, apples, grapes, flavored coffee…
- Thank You, Lord for the sense of smell…I enjoy the smell of fresh brewed coffee in the morning, fresh baked cookies, my favorite perfume, lit candles around the house…
What are you thankful for this week? Please do share with us in leaving your link below…
Thank you for stopping by today. Remember – be thankful for even the smallest things in life. Keeping a grateful heart, praising Him in all circumstances, makes traveling the winding road of life a little easier…

You are such a blessing to me friend! I think back to when it all began for me….and you and Laurel befriended me…welcomed me…urged and encouraged me…and God has done many things since then. I have seen His love and grace unfold in untold measures in my life!
You are an inspiration to me and so many more!
COFFEE!!!!!! That is the TOP thing that I am glad I can smell! We enjoyed many many flavors on our trip!
Amen Iris! Aren’t we fearfully and wonderfully made. Thanks for hosting TT. Blessings to you dear sister. Mary
We are blessed people and many times take for granted the things that we would certainly miss if it was taken away from us. The five senses are certainly something we should all be grateful for. Isn’t it awesome the way God made us? Thanks for sharing your thankful heart and leading us each week. -Laurie
Oh, yes… we should be grateful for our 5 senses!
Our senses are something I am thankful for also. Many times I take this for granted. Thanks for a great reminder to Thank HIM for the gift of having 5 senses! Thanks Iris! Happy TT~~
So true…sometimes I too take the senses God has blessed me with for granted…but yes, ain’t it wonderful to see, hear, touch, smell, taste etc…of what this world has to offer?
God is truly awesome!
Yes, I too am very thankful for my 5 senses as well. What a great reminder. I take it for granted too often.
Blessings…
Iris,
You know this is a really neat post. Thinking about these senses we take for granted too often is wise. It reminds me to thank the Lord for so many things like our health and our brains…
Wonderful! Have a fantastic TT. Hugs
A wonderful thank you list and we do take them for granted. I mustsay one touching the hem of His garment is my favorite. Thanks for sharing. Have a great TT
Amen! We take so many things for granted today. Like the old saying “you don’t really miss something until it is gone”…that really applies to every area of our lives…not just in relationships. I blogged today (actually yesterday, 29th) on Not Losing Heart…we are so devastated when we loss something precious to us or something terrible happens in our lives…but it is not the end.
We need to be thankful everyday for all our senses or the ones that we have left plus everything else that the Lord has blessed us with. I’m the 1st one to admit guilt.
I love your site and am blessed each time I visit!
Happy TT!!!
thank you for this topic you chose. people tend to forget to thank the Lord for these. God bless you, iris. ?
What a wonderful thankful list!

thank you for reminding me..so nice of your list. Happy TT! 🙂
Oooh your sense of smell comment has made me determined to make those “OK, if we got time I will do it” cookies that the kids asked about for today.
What a lovely list! Yes, we definitely take those things for granted. It is good to pause and reflect on how much enjoyment we get from those seemingly “little” things.
Wonderful post! Thank you Lord for my 5 senses.
Sometimes I forget to stop and appreciate the little things…once I do though…I am amazed at how BIG those little things are…Thanks for the reminder.
Beautiful post. Right along with my getting back to the basics perspective.
Iris, thank you! Sometimes it takes somebody to conk us against the head to remind us that sometimes we take for granted the very things we should be most grateful for! God bless!
Thank God for giving us the senses to enjoy Him and His creations. Thank you for sharing your thankful heart with us. Take care and God bless!
Thank you so much for choosing a theme that I sometimes take for granted. Recently, I briefly lost my sense of smell and taste due to a sinus infection thing, and oh, the joy when they were restored! I loved your post and wanted to thank you so much for hosting this meme each week.
That is a very nice thankful list Irish…Thanks for sharing…
I needed this reminder of all the senses I have that I often take for granted. Have a wonderful Thursday!
This post is great. I am often aware and thankful of my senses. I think I’ve posted that in my TT posts somewhere. I talk with my kids about them too. They are not something to ignore. They are a gift!
Thanks for your thoughts and for hosting week after week.
Be blessed,
Tiffany
Beautiful said….(thankful for small things?) I am thankful for COFFEE!! And cool cups to drink the coffee in (given by a sweet friend).
Iris, those are things we easily take for granted and yet if we didn’t have them, they would be so very missed. How blessed we are that God created our bodies to be able to feel and see and smell… 🙂
Great post Iris! I am also very thankful for my 5 senses.
Blessings to you!
Hey Iris!!!
I’m thankful for the 5 senses too!
That’s something that’s easy to take for granted…. and is incredible BLESSING!
Happy TT!

Several years ago during a very bleak time, God called me to begin a “thanks journal”, with I call my “blessing book.” Sight and hearing were the very first things I put in this book…for I did not think I had much else to give thanks for. How wrong I was….as I found out giving thanks makes you more thankful.
Blessings,
Patti
What a great reminder of how our senses can give glory to our God!
Have a blessed day, Iris!
Hey Iris!!
I was busy today and wasn’t going to post. Then I saw what you wrote about. After just returning from St. Jude with my son, I just had to give thanks for his vision once again.
Blessings to you my sweet friend?
Sorry I submitted my wrong blog to this post. Can you eliminate it and I will try again?
Amen! God is awesome in all his ways and its sometimes easy to forget to be thankful for things like the senses!
So beautifully said!! we are blessed!! 🙂
I am thankful for the life skills God has given me. I am able to help others help themselves.
Thanks for the reminder to be thankful for the simple things that we use everyday that we often take for granted! I am so thankful I have my 5 senses!
Blessings!
I love the 5 senses theme today.
Our library had a program recently that they let us see what it is like to be visually impaired through various booths that we were to do wearing a blind fold. It was very challenging and made us appreciate our sight.
I’m kind of late in posting on this Thankful Thursday. I almost didn’t even do one today but I’m so glad I did after all. I appreciate a day like this to choose for focus on thankfulness. There’s always much that comes to mind.
What blessings he has bestowed on us! We have much to be thankful for in the senses he has given us!
Peace and blessings to you on this Thankful Thursday.
Hello. I found you through Tea with Tiffany. I like the idea of thankfulness. I’m participating.
I think a lot of people take their 5 senses for granted. I take them in fully. I have bad eyes, very good palpations skills, a great sniffer, hearing & taste. I’m awakened each day with a renewed senses. Praise the Lord.
Iris,
I have given you an award! Stop by my site and see…http://pianokat61.wordpress.com. Have a blessed weekend,

I’m a little behind, but I love this post! Isn’t it truly amazing what we can do so easily with our body??? God is so great!
