Blessed Reformation Day…

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” ~ Hebrews 12:1-2 (ESV)

Did you know that Martin Luther used Hallows-Eve to start the reformation of the church in Germany? On October 31st, 1517, Dr. Martin Luther nailed his Ninety-Five Theses to the door of the All Saints’ Church. Not only did it start the reformation of the churches in Germany, but spread throughout Europe.

So, instead of ‘celebrating’ ghouls and goblins, I honor the saints gone before us…

Blessings on your day and as always…

  1. I’d much rather honor those saints indeed. I didn’t realize that October 31st was the day Martin Luther nailed the 95 Theses up. See how the Lord can use one person who is fully committed to Him.

  2. What a wonderful thing to do Iris. I didn’t know this was they day the reformation began. Thank you so much.
Thanks for adding my sig tag too! I just can’t seem to figure that out 🙂

  3. Thank you Iris for honoring our Lord & Martin Luther rather than the foolishness. I’m sure Our Lord is much more interested in honoring the SAINTS than the evil of this world! May Christians go further in shining the light of Christ in this darkness! Great perspective to honor the REFORMATION and let this day mark our lives being reformed, transformed and no longer conforming to the things of this earth but His Heavenly Kingdom! God bless you for sharing this!

  4. Thanks for the info I will have to learn more about that.
I went to my friends church of Nazarene tonight and volunteer to watch the kids on the air slide. It was a blast. I did great with 20 +/- kids up and down at the same time. Helping the little ones climb. Then all of a sudden it was like 50 +/- kids. I had a little duck girl under 1 arm trying to get up slide. And a bunch in the top and it was coming down at me. to many kids. But a couple people came to my rescue and we got it under control again. Some of my grandkids will be moved here soon. So I will have my own kid fun again soon. This town don’t have tricker treat like in St. Louis. It is really nice to see a church do this for the kids to enjoy a night of fun candy and a puppet show Sharing the words of god.
I am new to this town and have not found where I belong yet. So I have visited a few other churches here.

  5. I knew that but had forgotten, thanks so much for the reminder!

We do not celebrate this holiday… our church has a lite night for the community to try to shine the light of Christ, so that is where we were…

    Blessings!

  6. Hey Iris! I had not heard this until Friday. Thanks for posting. I struggle every year about what to do. Next year, I think I will do more research on All Saints Day and Martin Luther. My son and I will spend more time focusing on that. Thanks!
