Thankful Thursday ~ Providence

“The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.” ~ Hebrews 1:3 (NIV)

  • I am thankful that God provided me (and all who believe in Him) with a Way to Heaven. I know that I can’t make it on my own. I could never keep all the commandments without sinning. You know, I have “Sandpaper People” IRL and online…they just rub me the wrong way. But God tells me to love my enemies. With His help I can do that…
  • I am thankful that my Sweetheart is saving faithfully every paycheck. Because of it we were able to purchase a dishwasher without using credit — yeah! We paid CASH! I am so happy – the dishwasher will be delivered on Saturday. The old one is 13 years old and the dishes are not getting clean any longer…
  • I am thankful for freedom of speech and religion. Especially writing on my personal blog. I can share about my faith in Christ, my marriage, my motherhood, my blogging friends, my life in general without being judged (maybe some do, thats okay)…
  • I am thankful that I have a job that helps to pay our bills. Although I was hoping for a different job within the company, I know in my heart that I am where God wants me to be…
  • I am thankful that we always have food on the table — sometimes more than enough…
  • I am thankful for praise music and my car. You wonder why I connect the two? You see, I use my car as my personal sanctuary during the week. It gets me focused on the day ahead in the morning. It helps me to ‘wind-down’ after a long day at the office…

What are you thankful for this week? If you have posted on your own blog a thankful list, please add your link below and leave a comment (pretty please 😛 ). Otherwise leave a comment what you are thankful for…

Blessings on your day and as always…

“You act more like a Christian by your influence on the lost, then the saved
people you impress”
~ Dr. Alvin Reid ~

There are passages I have read over and over, but all of a sudden they hit my like a two-by-four. As I was reading the passages Dr. Reid is referring to (John 3 & 4), it hit me how tender Jesus was with the Samaritan woman. Dr. Reid really explained it well in his article ‘Being Like Jesus ~ Part 2‘…

Jesus first talked to her about her physical need of water that will not make her thirsty again, and than pointed to the everlasting life through Him…

I think that I need to approach my witnessing the same way. Meet the physical needs of an unbeliever before I can point to Him. One thing I have always missed — I can’t share the Gospel with unbelievers and expect them to believe what I am saying. I need to bring it to the Lord. He is the One who can soften a hardened heart to receive the message, not me…

As I was listening to a sermon on 1 Corinthians 5 today, I was reminded that there is a difference between pointing out sin within the church and outside the church. Although Paul is talking about sexual sin in this passage, I think that I can apply it to other sins as well (please correct me if I am wrong). Paul says:

“I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people– not at all meaning the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world.” ~ 1 Corinthians 5:9-11 (ESVemphasis mine)

I guess I have to learn how to apply that in my daily life and to my ‘witnessing strategy’…Meet the physical need first, pray that God will soften the hardened heart of an unbeliever (or even the heart of a prodigal) and than share the Gospel…

Lord of Heaven and Earth. I long to be Your hands and feet. I pray that You give me the wisdom to be a believable witness in this darkened world. It might not be me You have in mind to witness. Let me be quiet and listen to Your leading. Lord, I ask for discernment regarding matters within the church — that I first look at my own shortcomings before I point out the shortcomings of my bothers and sisters. I am trusting in Your mercy and grace. I pray in the precious name of my Lord and Savior, I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Will you join me in praying for unbelievers first? Every time you encounter someone, lift him/her up and ask Him to soften their hearts?

Please visit out hostess, Laurel at “Laurel Wreath” to read her and other Christian women’s take on this week’s IOW quote.

Lots of Things Happening…

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. It was quiet around here this weekend – wet outside, but cozy and warm in our four walls. I got my house all cleaned up, laundry washed, read my Bible, read several chapters of “The Mom Complex” (did you Darlene is really funny?), listened to sermon(s). drove our son to work and picked him up….I guess I was busy .

I just wanted to share a few things that are going on in the blogsphere…

  • Please visit Laced with Grace tomorrow morning and read what my dear friend, Sissy has to share with you. I pray that it is as encouraging to you as it to me…
  • My friend Laurel, will be hosting “In Other Words” this week. The quote she has selected:

“You act more like a Christian by your influence on the lost, then the save people you impress.” – Dr. Alvin Reid

If you need a little background on the quote, please read his article “Being like Jesus ~ Part 2” (very compelling). I pray you will find the time to join us on Tuesday…

  • Darlene created a wonderful page to leave your prayer requests…She is also looking for prayer warriors to join the team. So please check it out – okay?

  • Would you like to ‘meet’ some new bloggers? Than this blog-party is for you…

    Ultimate Blog Party

I pray that you will have a blessed week and seek Him when you are stressed, down and need encouragement…

Trinkets to Treasure

Orange Blossoms

I wanted to share this little trinket with you today. It is from the study “Adventurous Prayer” I am working through right now…

“Your little bit of a treasure this week is a seed — a bundle of potential, just waiting to be planted. It will remind you that when you pray, it is like planting a seed. God’s answer will come, just like the flowers will eventually come up from the earth. But we must be patient, waiting for the proper time, until we can enjoy the color and fragrance of the first blossom. Don’t become discouraged if God seems slow to answer your heart’s cry. Keep on praying, and planting, and someday there may be a whole garden blooming to His glory.” (Page 74)

Some times we pray a prayer over and over and it doesn’t seem that we get an answer from God. But the Bible tells us in numerous places that we ought to be patient. He will answer — maybe not right away, but He will answer. Always remember that…

But as for me, I will look to the LORD;
I will wait for the God of my salvation;
my God will hear me. ~ Micah 7:7 (ESV)

Blessings on your Sunday afternoon and as always…
