Harry Goody III (*1951 | † 2001)

In Memory

I have to admit that I don’t know too much about Mr. Goody, but with help from a friend, I can share some personal information about him with you:

“Goody, known to friends as “Chuckie,” worked for the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance.
Harry Goody liked nothing more than polishing his mountain bike and taking long treks through Brooklyn. Rain or shine, Saturdays were always the same for Harry Goody III. He would wake up early, break out a can of wax for his silver and chrome mountain bike, then take his
favorite ride, through the streets of Coney Island all the way to Prospect Park.
And if there was anything the 50-year-old Coney Islander liked as much as riding, it was immersing himself in hour after hour of science-fiction shows on TV, his way of shedding the stress that came with working in the state’s tax and finance office on the 86th floor
of 2 World Trade Center. The addiction was one so intense that Mr.Goody’s three children nicknamed him “Sci-Fi Man” and told jokes about his penchant for buying science fiction-themed gadgets — the pen he loved because he could use it standing upside down just like the
astronauts, or the Superman ring he wore nearly every day.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda and three children, Alexis, Johnathan, and Demetrius.”

Sometimes I can’t help but wonder what all the people who died in the World Trade Center thought when the plane crashed in the building. Some might have died instantly, but what about the people who tried to get out and couldn’t? It makes me sad to know that some of them had to suffer a cruel end to their earthly life. And I hope that most of them were able to make peace with their Maker…

“And he said, ‘Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.’ And he said to him, ‘Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.’
~ Luke 23:42-43

Remember today the victims of this cruel attack. The are all missed by their families and friends, but the will never be forgotten…To read tributes to all 2,996, visit the homepage of Project 2,996.

  1. The more tributes I read the more I feel touched. Taking time to find information about these people really made me realize how little we know about some of the victims and how they were all mostly just people like you and me. People who are deeply missed and I pray that none of them will ever be forgotten. Thanks for honoring Mr. Goody. I read his wife said she knew he’s make it out, in the press… and I know she must have had a hard time swallowing this event that forever affected her life. May they find peace and comfort during this anniversary.

  2. Thank you for writing this — I didn’t know about Project 2996 until I read about it here on your blog. That’s a wonderful tribute to Mr. Goody — and it’s a blessing to be reminded how precious life is.

I’ve been thinking today about what I was doing on 9/11/01, and I’ll post about it tomorrow. Our world changed forever that day. I don’t know how people survive without finding hope in Christ — I guess that’s why we bloggers keep on with our mission to share.

    Love ya!

  3. Thank you for sharing his life and how he lived. I have been to Prospect Park and now I will see him riding there. Wondeful post.

Thank you for coming to read my tribute for Gilbert and leaving a comment.

  5. Thank you Iris for participating in this project and for writing such a marvelous tribute for Mr. Harry Goody. Your words help to make this gentleman more than a statistic. this allows us to get up close and personal with a life that touched many…as God intended for us to do. God Bless!

  6. Thank you for doing this. It is hard to believe it was 5 years ago. Just reading the stories brings it all back, all the sadness.

All I can think when I see the faces is “oh, I hope they knew Jesus”!

  7. It was a horrible day also in Europe ! So many people from every country were involved as so many international companies were located in the Twin Towers. And as sad as it was something positive came out, it brought us all closer together. Whatever nationality is written in your passport we are all feeling the same.

  8. It’s good to be reminded of the personal lives of the victims of 9/11. I wasn’t going to do a post today, but couldn’t help but write about my memories of that horrible event. I hope each of us will take great peace in knowing that God is still on the throne and He’s still in control. I pray that the families and friends of those lost on 9/11 will be comforted and find peace in our Savior, Jesus Christ. Thanks for linking my post to yours. Together we will remember.

  9. Haven’t you just been blessed by being part of the 2996 Tribute? At first, I was a little apprehensive about writing a tribute for someone I have never met–but the research and the reading of what I found–allowed me to get to know a pretty fabulous man….Sgt. Michael Curtin. All of those who perished on 9/11/2001 were such hero’s in death and in life. These tributes have touched my heart–I pray that the families of each person honored will feel just a little encouraged by the 2996 project. We will not forget!
