Thankful Thursday ~ “Scripture Dig”

“But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. β€œAnd when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” ~ Matthew 6:6-8 (ESV)

God always sends someone or something into our lives when we struggle with certain parts of our spiritual life. It was no different when it came to my prayer life. As I had mentioned in my IOWT post, I am struggling with prayer. I have prayed some prayers for years that have not been answered; which keeps me wondering if I do not pray hard enough…

…last week I came across a blog that I know will help me in my struggles concerning my spiritual life. Guess what subject the Scripture Dig team is covering right now?!? Yup, prayer. Kathy Howard is currently writing a series on ‘The Lord’s Prayer’. Her writings are thought provoking and powerful. But don’t take my word for it; check it our yourself (just click on the image to take you there)…

So, this week I am thankful for God’s provision for my walk with Him. I am thankful that He sent help growing closer to Him and His will.

What are you thankful for this week? Please share with us over that my friend Laurie’s blog “Women Taking a Stand“, linking up with your own Thankful Thursday post.

Thank you for stopping by today. Remember: God will always find a way to help you grow.

  1. Thankful He knows the best answer and timing for our prayers….and to appreciate that He knows so many more details than we can ever know…I’m thankful He protects me from myself some times. I’m thankful I found your blog…I’m enjoying peeking into your world.

  2. Prayer is our lifeline. Sometimes I struggle with focus as I pray. I get so easily distracted. I find that if I pray aloud it helps me.

Iris, I love your heart. You desire to grow closer in your walk with the Lord. I’m so glad I’m on this journey of living fearlessly with you. You are very special.

    Love you,
    Debbie

  3. Oh it is sooo hard to keep praying and praying when it doesn’t seem like it’s being answered. Have you read the autobiography of Manley Beasley. It’s about his prayer life and in the book talks about a friend that prayed for decades for a friend to come to know Christ. The prayerful man passed away but between the time he died and his funeral the friend accepted Christ as Savior. Amazing the impact we may never see of how our interceding will effect others. Hope this is an encouragement for you. πŸ™‚ God loves you and is listening just has different timing than we want sometimes.

  4. That is something to be thankful for…..it’s amazing how God can send someone to help us in our time of need. God is just so awesome like that. Thanks for sharing!!!

  5. Thank you for your honest and heart-filled post. We can be thankful that the Lord opens our eyes to the parts of our spiritual life that we can build on. Yet, He loves us just the way we are. He is happy to have us praise Him in whatever style we have. For some it is prayer, for others it is dance or music, or just heart-filled worship. God bless you in your spiritual walk!

  6. What a blessing it is to be able to come before Him in prayer. Sometimes it appears that our prayers are not answered…but that’s when trust comes in. He hears you, Iris…and He is already at work bringing the answers, even before you verbalize the question. His timing is perfect! Thank you for sharing that beautiful verse and your thoughts on the joys of prayer. God is so good!

    Living for Him, Joan
